Ive been into cars all my life. Growing up in the So Cal lowrider scene I was into impalas and fleetlines. As I grew older, my interests broadened to pretty much anything cl***ic and cool. But after being on the HAMB and checking out other peoples rides, I no longer consider myself a "chevy" guy. The model A's on here have got me drooling! At this point, I'd like to get a 57 f100 over a 57 chevy truck. So my question is, has the HAMB inspired anyone on here to build something they typically wouldnt consider? www.ja**kustomstuff.com
I've been a '57 Chevy guy all my life (after Dad would only have Fords)...however, the last build I did, I went for a Cadillac. True, it's still GM, but it's completely different than any Chevy I've built... To see the complete 5 1/2 year build, from start to finish, go here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329070&highlight=the+best+55+caddy+build R-
I've always considered myself a Chevy guy. I've had 3 55s (have one now), a 69 Camaro, 64 El Camino, 50 Chevy PU. Along with a couple Toyota PUs and a 78 Celica (daily drivers) But somehow I ended up with 4 Fords and a Toyota. 98 Taurus wagon (the wifes) and ****** (my mundane) a 66 F100, my 32 coupe and a 95 Toyota PU. Really, I like 'em all if they're old and cool. I'm too old and set in my ways to let a silly thing like a web forum change my mind. However, I can be swayed off this way or that sometimes. Heck, I can watch a TV show about Porches and want one (cl***ic of course) or Studebaker or an Austin Healy or even a frickin' Maverick. There's a late 60s Corvair in my neighborhood I'm eyeing at the moment.
Yea , I used to think nothing else was made besides Chevrolet , untill someone showed me the greatness of GMC....
Wow, now that's really stepping outside the box! I used to lean towards GM, until I got my Flathead T. Although I've also like a few 40's Fords I've seen...........
I'm a Ford guy all the way. Cut me and I bleed blue. But my avatar is me with my current project. I guess I like a little bit of everything. Except new Chrysler products. We have a 2001 Durango that ****s donkey balls.
I am a nova guy at heart but I have done alot of off brands I like the od balls so with this new build I am doing a olds with an olds motor, but the 350 olds dont play well with the front steer olds frame. so it was a 289-c-4 or a 350 chevy or a 360 plymouth motor what to do so I am doing the 350 chevy motor there cheap to build and parts are laying around in the yard. Lol I am saving the 289 for my 1918 oldsmobile.
I was a chevy Camaro guy until the '82's came out... What a let down!! Then in '88, I bought my first NEW car... A Ford 5.0L pony with a 5-speed.
I like all the old cars. I have had them all, ford chevy, mopar, pontiac,Buick, etc, etc. They all ran good for me. The only reason I usually go with a chevy engine is the parts interchange so easily. Right now I have found a huge 4 door mid 1960`s Caddilac that I want. .
growing up i leaned towards camero's and nova's, so in hte iden***y of ford vs chevy, i'll say chevy. but ya kno? any chevy man that dont see that all the manufactures can turn out some dang nice scoots, is just blind. i really liked my friends mom's 1966 chevyII 6 cyl and had dreams of buying it and turning it into a sleeper with a 327 with a blower lol (too many rat fink trading cards???... nah!). but i also knew that the '69 Mach1 and the 70 'Cuda (who can forget the bada$$ challenger in Vanishing Point) were top line machines, and as a pickup owner, i know that the ford has a high carbon frame that is the strongest frame on the market. though i wont give up my GM motor for nothing, i have owned a few other mills. my first 4x4 at 18 was a '74 ramcharger 440/727/new process full time 4wd that was truly amazing. i have a hard time buying a ford plant, so i was relieved to find out that the model t i went to look at had a 365 cadillac ok it was a t-bucket lol i will always be a gm guy with a spot for some one elses top notch cruiser if it tickles my fancy. i must enter my uncles pickup here. he had a 1968 F250 with a 440 and a push ****on shift ****** from a '57 De Soto! the first time i sat in it and he said put it into gear, i looked at the removed split pin and no rod on the column and chuckled when i looked at the hump. then he chuckled and said look under the left side of the dash.... it had a duely rear axle and home made chrome fenders over them. he had bought it from a client of his that was like me, loved ford trucks; no love for ford plants LOL i say, go with what yu love most, but leave a little room for an adopted redheaded stepchild hehe.
For me it was seeing post with 1939 Lincoln Zephyr pics. I still haven't got one but it's on my list.
I'm a Ford guy but like everything and have owned many chevys. I lean more towards Olds in the GM corral. And I also prefer a 57 F100 over a 57 Chevy pickup any day, because they are waay better cabs. I was born and raised on chevys, never much cared for blue ovals in my younger days. It was those ****py chevy pickup cabs that eventually drove me across the river. That and their weak ifs, and mooshy soft cams.
I was a Ford Freak for years playing with FE Galaxies, Fairlanes, Mustangs, Falcons, etc. Then I got turned onto Chevys somewhere and never looked back. But if another ***y Ford was to come into my life, I'd jump the fence again. Bob
My Dad always felt like chevys were the way to go and I followed his lead for many years. My best friend eventually became the general manager of the states largest Ford dealer so over time I shifted my devotion to Ford. I have a new Ford truck plus a 53 f-100 driver and a 31 project truck. The old man had a 32 hot rod back in the fiftys that probably started my interest at the core for old fords and it just never went away. There is something about a ford flathead motor that just screams cool to me, like a halibrand rear end or any of the other traditional hot rod stuff. Chevys don't capture that imagination, even though I have had plenty.
Been a chevy guy for 40 years now. I got too many chevy parts piled up to change now. If I got a Ford I'd have to put a chevy motor in it. I bleed Chevy Orange.
ive alwys been a chevy guy.i bouilt my dads 53 ford kept it ford powered until lastnight.i pulled the 302 and started building a 383 sbc.no matter what i did with the 302 i wasnt happy and prob never would be..got tired of getting beat...
Let me start by saying that I am sorry for you. Friends don't let friends drive Fords. I guess given my options I might choose a '56 F-100 of a '56 GM but probably not a '57 Ford I just don't like the way they look. I still use the same body style that I have alsways have, specific Ford bodies have always been good for me as well as GM and several other brand names. So the question becomes have to gone so made that you think that your car needs to be a restoration? IE put a Ford in a Ford or a MOPAR in a MOPAR type of becomming a Ford man.
I am now and have always been a Ford guy,,although I have owned a couple of Chevys. I have to admit there are a lot of Fords I would like to own but I wouldn't mind a 55 Chevy in the garage,,still one of the coolest cars to me in the GM lineup. I now own 3 1932 Fords,,one with a flathead, one with a small block Ford and one with a SBC. HRP
Fords are prettier... even if they do like to break down but dont they all!? I may drive a Lincoln but thats close enough for me! My luxery ford!
Boy does this sounds familiar! All those nights sitting in the Mo in the 60s joaning on the Ford guys. All those verbal battles that entertained us then. My uncle was a Pontiac dealer and then a Chevy dealer. We never had any Fords. My first Ford powered hotrod was my sport coupe that I put a 53 Merc in it in 1994. I wanted to build it like they did in 1951. I bought a 93 Ford Lightning because it was good deal. I'm coming up on 200 K on the clock. I'm currently putting an FE in a 56 Ford 2 dr. What has happened to me? I'm not the same guy. If I was still at the Mo I'd be all over my ***! Where did I go wrong? Waaa happened???
I've always loved them all! I have owned Austins, Citroens, Mopars, Fords and Chevy's! My last finished project was a Chevy 327 powered '62 Studebaker Lark. Currently I am building a '29 Chevy sedan with a 327/th350, '40 Ford brakes and a 9" Ford rear. I think imho that everybody built some great cars (and some duds) over the years. For years it was nothing but El Caminos for me, but now, with two small boys, I need a back seat!
