I wandered upon this while walking the dog

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by back yard bobbers, Dec 26, 2008.

  1. Hi guys,
I was walking the family dog while visiting Massachusetts for Christmas and I saw this truck behind an old shut down hardware store. Its an international, dont know anything else. Should I pursue acquiring it? Also there was this cool old trailer of some sort, It has cast iron spoke wheels, pretty neat stuff. It would be cool to have in my yard I think.

    What do you guys think??

Cool old truck, coast to coast shipping cost may change your mind...

  4. Im just thinking to keep "back home". I come back here often and have a house here and it would give me something to do while visiting. Im particularly interested in that cool cast iron trailer.

  7. You have to wonder what that trailer was built for.

Thats a 1940 International D-30 1.5 ton truck. 1940 is the only year for the little turnsignal housings on top of the front fenders. The cab , hood tops and grill are the same as the smaller 1/3 ton trucks. The rear cab mount is different then the 3/4 ton and 1/2 models but not much different.

  11. That trailer frame is cast iron, with all kind of mounting holes and that cut out section molded in to the rear, Ive been searching all over the web, but cant figure it out. fire equipment maybee?

Mine looked just about like that when I started, The sheetmetal is really thick and the top is a seperate piece overlapped and welded at the beltline. Makes for an easy chop and you can keep the back window. The windshield frame is multipiece and held together with screws, makes it easy to cut done. They also have cool bullet shaped headlights that match the fender markers, I converted the fender markers to yellow bulbs for turn signals. The cab itself looks pretty soild on the one you found. Good luck!

Trailer could be fire equipment, WWI military trailer, or construction all of which have been mentioned.

You should grab those fender mounted turn signals and send them to me. I think I could use them on my truck.

International trucks have always been very ugly.
An art teacher told me that some people can not understand the difference between beauty and ugly and those people can NOT be taught to see the difference.

I guess thats how ugly girls manage to have sex.

No matter what you do to it it will always be ugly.
If you are OK with that, go for it.
There was a guy here with a 49-52 Dodge car.
It had been thoroughly customized but you could still tell what it used to be, and still is, ---ugly---

That is a big slow truck that gets lousy gas mileage, and a set of tires will cost more than a thousand dollars.

After you spend huge amounts of money for it, what could you use it for?

Unfortunately some people think that just because a car is old, it is automatically cool.
International trucks have never been cool

Ugly girls manage to have sex with fat, ugly guys...or decent looking guys that get drunk beyond good judgement.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Same as there's plenty of ugly people in terrific relationships (while the "beautiful people" in Hollywood go to pieces), I'm sure there's plenty of guys runnin around in unfinished late 30's-early 40's pickups that are having a hell of a lot more fun than some over serious, uptight gold chainers in 100k+++ 32 Fords.

I'd say buy the truck if it's a decent buy. Who knows, next time you go by you may find that someone started to part it out (or steal parts off of it) or it got sent to the scrapper.

  28. Why would a guy from California want to haul home a wreck from the east coast? I thought it went the other way......... what the hell is happening?

Chances are that trailer may have been the carrier for the local ice plant. Ice is very heavy and packed in straw or other natural insulating material for delivery.

That happens cause they all look the same upside down. Now fat girls...that is something I still have not understood.
