Looking around the shop i think i have about everything needed to build something like this. Im not going for a HA/GR car but more of the early digger style. I saved this pic awhile back from somewhere, does a HAMBER own it? I need some direction on the frame to get started. Any pics or info will help. The HAMB drags are comming up fast!!

  2. This is a tube ch***is deal but it will give you the basics of where to start as far as getting everything aligned etc.

    http://www.armageddontopfuel.com/purgatory/ch***isbook.html

There are tons of posts on how to build a suicide perch, and if you look real hard I think there are even some posts on the ch***is that SamIam built for the Bomb Factory fueler.

Ohterwise no one is gonna show you how to build a car in one post.

I guess if you send me some specs I can make you a print for the ch***is, but I don't come cheap any more.

Building the car is not a problem. Basically the frame width, i see the mid mounts are 24" wide. So keep it that wide or narrow it up some, or pinch the front in from the motor forward? And what wheel bases were used. I can't seem to find anything on the early cars until the full tube ch***is. Im thinking around 120" would work.

  4. 120 is good.

You are probably going to want to be about 28-30" at the cowl and taper forward to about 24" from there.
    Hope that helps a little.

you sure you don't want to build a ha/gr? not much different than a digger, just move the rear axle behind you and a few other rules, but another ha/gr car would be great!!!!!!:D

ok, enough of that. I love the digger/early slingshot style car. Have fun with it.

[IMG]Here's one from the 50's in Caldwell Idaho. I asked the guys about the front end and they said it's some British parts from the junkyard. They just grabbed what looked like would fit.

Kmember, got any updates on pics of the Swindlers digger? I saw it at the Arlington Drags (I think that pic is the same event) and they had just picked it up recently and dropped that motor in it.
Btw, from my discussions with them at the time, they had no intention of running that thing in any drags. Never p*** inspection and even if it did, way unsafe. Diggers are cool though. Build it!:D

Maybe PM Just Dug, he may have some phone numbers. I know that they are NOT going to race it as Comet said it is unsafe, but it should see some motoring around the pits and at a few of the bigger car shows.

I have a source. Gimme a day or so and I'll try and get some dimensions and drawings made up.

I'd like a copy too, if it's not too much trouble.

120" would work but it's way long for an early car, in my memory most were 90" to 100" W.B.

Say you built a 100"wb car, somthing like the firs pics, all to NHRA handbook specs but without a specific cl***, would you still be able to run it anywhere? Providing it p***ed tech, it should be able to run exhibition runs or??

Should be able to. I build my cars to p*** tech anywhere but they look nostalgic. I know it won't look as good with a double hoop but it should be ok.

I've always wanted something like Swamp Rat I. I could build something like this Lakewood ch***is. With a few more tubes, it could be pretty safe.

I want to help develop an econo FED cl***. Think about something like this. With a Goodwrench crate 350 and single four barrel, you could go fast for cheap.

I'm gonna say tubing style shouldn't really be an issue as long as it's sufficient wall thickness.

I am getting some dimensions today for those ch***is I was talking about. I'm taking pics as well.
