I Want A Home Built Spray Booth

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 57chevywagonman, Mar 29, 2012.

  1. Yes! I do love the old photo! Thanks. I checked with Robinson, the manufacturer of the fan. They provided me with the specs on this model. I only gave $75.00 for this fan. The motor is mounted outside the air stream, however this is of little concern since I am using the fan to blow clean filtered air into the booth. This is referred to as a positive pressure system. Since the contaminated air has no opportunity to cross the motors frame it makes no difference. The positive pressure system will also help keep contaminates from being drawn into the booth which can happen with a negative pressure booth.

    1) you can paint almost anywhere. but since you have the space and means to do so it won't hurt to build in a booth.

    2) as far as local goverment goes it's a "detail booth" not a "paint booth"

    3) as others have said--it hard to have too much lighting and ventilation--and I always thoroughly soak down the floor with water before spraying.

  4. Maybe I'm missing something but I have painted cars in an open air carport on calm days that came out great and I am no painter.

I would think a 2x4 frame structure with plastic sheeting on the sides, a plywood roof painted white, some good shop lights lined around the walls and some well thought out ventilation would be plenty good for a guy wanting to spray a couple cars a year.

You could even convert one side of a 2 car garage and then take it down when you were done without much h***le.

  5. Ron,

The truth is I want a set up where I don't have to wait on the weather. Something where I can be ready to paint in a matter of minuets. I too have painted out doors with good results. It is just that I am trying for the best professional setup I can afford. If one is purely a hobbyist they can wait to paint. A pro does not do this. Please keep in mind I am setting up a dream shop. 40'x50' with 4 doors and 13' ceilings. I have worked for years in a 2 1/2 car garage, making do with the space I had. I am hoping to be more efficient in a larger well organized space.
