I once had an experimental model 1955 Chrysler 300 C 2dr Hardtop red and white clean.Under the hood was a dual quad ram induction Hemi.Push button torqueflite. The speedo said 155 and she'd do it.I'd take it out on the highway and cruise at 120 and punch it and it would pull you into the back seat, man that car was fun.One drawback was when you were driving like that you could literally watch the gas gauge go down.Have you ever had a ride that you would love to have back?
nope, girlfriends either. Was the '55 experimental or were you experimenting with something? 155+ in a basically stock '55 Chrysler is a bit hard to believe.
From what i know your car would have been a 300A not C.The trans would have been a powerflite not torqueflite.Very rare car. With the right gearing it could have done that but must of been slow off of the line.Oh and i want my old 48 Austin ex D/GAS back but i hope my new 1934 Plymouth will make me forget about my old cars.
When I bought the car the owner didn't want to sell it to me cause he thought I didn't appreciate what he was selling me.He said punk do you reallize what your buying and like a maron I'd say yeah it should shine up real nice and he'd say your not getting this car cause you havn't a clue.He said again this is an experimental Chrysler 300 "C"! Maybe not a tourqueflite but the speedo said 155 and she'd do it,I'm not kidding.I bought the car just outside Detroit. If you watched any of Boyd Cottington's Hot Rod Shop in the basckround is one same color and all.
Torqflite didn't come out until '57 I believe, and there was no pushbutton Chryslers until '56. I've never seen a Hemi with rams on it either, only on the 361/383/413 powered cars. If what you had was really factory built, it would have been made of early prototype parts.
Yeah. My old Racer I built out of what was left of a Lola Sports2000 ( crashed, halfway parted out, and neglected when a buddy and me found it. we bought it together,he took the rear suspension, I took the rest..) I bet another buddy I could build it at or under 300Kg. I lost that bet, but it was pretty close... And my Fiat 500. The first car I bought with my own money... And most of all, my Mk1 Ford Escort Estate ( 2dr Wagon ) Towcar, daily driver, saw some racing action as well. Webers, suspension mods, Koni's that were revalved by the Koni Race Dept... ( sleeper...) Still one of the best Street Cars I've ever owned.
I dont have that problem. I still have mine. Dad bought it from the original owner in 1968 for $350. I was ten and said "thats MY car, dad!" I still got the letter he wrote me telling me what a huge responsability a car was when he turned over the title. Been 40 years and I told my kids to bury me in it. Or cremate me and stuff the ash trays with me and drive the snot out of it!
my first model a...it was a 29 tudor sedan built in the late 60's with a 327 that was strong and reliable...unchopped, bright red, and loads of fun...sold it to pay for our wedding and honeymoon...loved her then and I love her now...I love my wife too
My Google button is broken. Can you just post some pics of your car to save us the trouble? Wait, I got the button to work: http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z6680/Chrysler-C300.aspx So, in 1959, someone was able to get up to 156.387 at Bonneville with a 300D for a new class record, but you had one and you could top that yourself at will on public roads? I am going to guess the Bonneville car was a little prepped and that was the best they could get on a very controlled course. I hope you at least buckled up before you got it past a 140 and used your turn signals when you changed lanes.
stud trucks what I said was true and sorry you don't believe me .You found your Google button that talked about the 1700 Chrysler hemi models for the year 1955 but what info did you find on the 1955 Chrysler 300 "C" EXPERIMENTAL model?Unless you have all the data on an EXPERIMENTAL model in front of you I'm thinking you don't have a clue. This thread is about cars that got away from us that we wish we had back not what your doing. There's a lot of people in Detroit that remember this car well.If this thread bothers you so much MOVE ON
Thread doesn't bother me one bit, and the essence of it is totally fine. It is just the assertion that you went around doing 155+ with some crazy super rare '55 Chrysler is a bit hard to believe. Going 155+ anywhere other than a controlled race course with a car specifically set up to do it is hard enough and already more than enough dangerous. Doing it with some car you bought off some old man who didn't want you to have it and then riding around doing 155+ just seems a bit of a tall tale. Also seems a bit odd that knowing you had such a special car, you now have no photos of it and can't seem to post a link to any webpages on the exact one seems odd as well. I don't know, sounds like a totally bad ass car and maybe you did have it. I would just love to see it if so. Since you are far more familiar with this type of car, please post some photos or links for us to see. I am sure I am not the only one that would appreciate a photo or link on this car. So far, I made an attempt to find out some info., did google a bit and posted a link. That is one more than you. Please, give me some help here vs. just more hear-say talk. if you know google can find it, just give us a link or 2 to check out. Would be glad to. And by the way, read the link I found, it does in fact mention info on '55 C models, but nothing to suggest they can easily do 155+. It says they were 331 hemis with 300hp. I have to say, it is going to take a bit more than 300hp to make a '55 Chrysler top 155. from that link, is this it?:
I have had the pleasure of owning several Chrysler letter series cars including 6 c300 yes c300 c for coupe 300 for horsepower 331 ci first car with over 1 hp per ci . 155 mph no. speedometer registered150. yes it would show 150 but truth of the matter actual top speed was around 130.I know because i took one to bonneville in 1955 and ran 130.26 I am not saying you did not have a very special car as all c300 were special. By the wayI still have my first c300
no old pics anywhere, shaker? And not to sound skeptical at all, but are you sure it isnt something that someone built? Just wondering.
My Dad owned a first year '55 Chrysler 300 that he bought used in 1956. It had dual quads but not ram induction. It was a DOG, with capital letters. It would go 120 but didn't have as much punch at 120 as you're remembering. It took forever just to get to 120 miles per hour. You could have a case of "the older I get, the faster I was!". I suffer from that sometimes........Mike
