Oh yeah, and a spare belt and set of points cuz you'll never find them on the road if you need them

Who the hell cares what other people say man! I really doubt that would happen and I would still go. A run like that to a show like that is what dreams are made out of. You only live once!

Lots of post-'63 cars get into the Roundup despite what the "rules" say.

As long as your car has a traditional vibe to it & you're not running 18" billet wheels w/ rubber band tires, good chance nobody will call you on the year.

There has been a '64 Galaxie at the Roundup multiple times...

Three years ago I drove my 40 Coupe to LSR 12 hours each way. It had not been more than around the block since the early 70's before that trip! And other than brakes and suspension nothing was new. I took a few tools and other than a tire rubbing on the front fender had no trouble. Just grab a few tools and hit the road!

this would be a dream come true...the journey is the fun part. Get AAA and make the best of whatever happens.

  7. God, man up and drive it. It is 1100 miles one way for me and I have done it twice already in my coupe. In fact here is a link of last time I went with real time updates from the road. I saw eailer in this thread of a very good list of what to bring. Follow that list and nothing will happen. Hell if I can do it in my 32 coupe twince you for sure can do it in a nice new car like a yours.

As of this afternoon, I'm still planning on doing it.

Matter of fact, I just got another set of belts, air cleaner, and some other stuff.
I'm not trying to be a little b*tch about it, just frustrated a bit I guess.
I would like to think that my Enthusiasm is a good thing. And I know it's self-serving to say, but if BilletProof is pre-64, you'd think The Round Up would be, too. But again, that's self-serving to say the least I KNOW.

I've been working to put my tool and supply kit together. It's actually been fun. We are going to do all the front end bushings on Tuesday, and probably replace the rear shocks, and I've got a Petronix coming (WOW it's expensive compared to a Chevy!). Might even do some Lake Pipes on her.

The other thing I didn't take into consideration (because I'm an idiot sometimes) is that my Galaxie is totally custom in the nose and the tail, using 1952 Ford lights and rings, and extending the hood 4 inches, etc., so it doesn't LOOK like a 64 anyway, and could probably pass for a 63 maybe to the right person (I hope, I hope, I hope). So yes, I'm leaning toward making the trip.

We'll keep planning for it, and see how the 6 hour trip to BilletProof goes in March.

This may sound silly ... and it may have been suggested already (I haven't perused every post). But the one item most used in my long distance travels has been a "bag of bolts". I carry a ZipLoc bag of bolts, nuts, and washers, in various sizes and lengths, that I buy buy the pound at Tractor Supply. Engines and transmissions fail far less often than nuts and bolts -- which vibrate loose from long hours of driving. It's nice to have a 3/8" nut or bolt (standard thread) handy when something comes loose on the side of the road.

My wife & I drove my '37 Chevy coupe to Rapid City, SD a couple of years ago and a side trip into Wyoming, then back home. We put a little over 3600 miles on it and were gone for a couple of weeks. I took some common hand tools, some of the hearder to get spare parts, a cell phone, cash & credit cards. We never had any problems.

About 15 years ago we drove down into Virginnia and I threw a rod. We rented a car, finished our trip, drove home and got my truck & tow bar and the following week, drove back down and towed it home.

Point being, if you're afraid of a breakdown, you're going to miss some great times. I've met some really neat & helpful people when I've broken down. Get your car prepared as best you can and go for it! You don't want to be that guy that's on his deathbed wishing he'd had that 2nd piece of pizza, do you?

    Yeah...I agree.
I'm going to do the best I can to plan and pack what I think I'll need...anything else, that's what I have AAA for.
I'm not getting any younger, you know. (none of us are)
