with all the talented guys on this board this should be easy. I've got three variations of scallops I'm thinking of putting on my shoebox sedan. The three elements I'm toying with are A) the scallop design B) the wheels (red, chrome or wheel covers) and C) lakes pipes or front wheelwell dumps. Sooooo.... tell me what ya like and what ya don't like. Sorry for the poor picture quality but I had to photograph drawings and they didn't turn out too good.
I like the wheels in pic one, scallops in pic 2, and pipes in pic 2. I like the wheel covers w/lake pipes, and the scallops in pic 2 are different(I like how the swoop down towards the rear wheel well opening.
Middle pic all the way. 2nded by my wife. Chrome & lakes pipes look better to us, just our humble opinions.
Sorry man I don't care for any of them. But thats just me. Lots of things I don't like. I do like that car the way it is though
I think the paint is good (#2), lake pipes and red wheels with spiders or dog dish caps with trim rings... something to break up the red... chrome wheels if they are smoothies.. But then again, you asked for help from talented members..
I don't like the curved scallops with the lake pipes. I don't like the 3rd scallop design at all. The 3rd version wheels/tires are interesting. Kinda neo traditional. I like it but not everyone will appreciate that style. If you are trying to break new ground, I'd go with #2 scallops with #3 wheels/tires. The overall scheme seems a bit more modern/street rodish. I don't recall seeing that style of scallops pop up prior to the 80s. If you want to run the first set of wheels and caps, I think an earlier style of scallops would be more appropriate. Hope that's helpful Rich!
I'm with Roadstar, I dont really like any of them either. The scallops need to be shortend and straight.
Since you asked, I agree with Rudy and Muttley, I don't care for any of those designs. As soon as I scrolled past the third I said "yuck" out loud. I've never been a huge fan of scallops though so take my opinion with a grain of salt so to speak. Short, small ones around the cowl of a hot rod look good BUT on your shoebox it's way too much. That's all your eye sees at first. Don't mess with a good thing bud. Solid colors are timeless. I do LOVE the tire/wheel combo in version #1. In fact, that's probley what I'm leaning towards for Big Olds.
I agree with the last few opinions: the car needs fewer scallops to look good. The designs look too busy, IMHO. Trad, to me, is a scallop that looks like a sideways "U", with the forward edge following the angle of whatever its up against. The trailing edges should be straight, tapering evenly towards the rear. The pics shows a Plymouth with a trad scallop on it's side. Individual preference can determine the length, taper, which is longer, if either, radius of corners, colour, etc., but I feel that to be traditional, a scallop has to be just two 'spears'. No Brittany :0 Only my take... Cosmo
Wow, I think it takes alot of balls to do a makeover like that to your ride. My hats off to ya. So since ya asked, I like #3 with the wheel/hubcap/tire combo of #1. I think it will look great, hope that helps. Joel
[ QUOTE ] ok here we go, I like the pipes in B, the wheels in A, and for paint D No scallops [/ QUOTE ] Honestly, I'm with you on this one...
Before looking at any replies i set my mind on pic 2 & the flipper caps from pic 1. Guess its easy on the eye for most folks!
I guess I also like the 2'nd scalops the best, followed by the first. I also like the long lake pipes, but the sneakers are cool too. I like the hubcaps, the steel or chrome would be better if they were 15" and not 17"
Number two...but w/ better Scallops. What you've got going there right now looks like bad early 90's Scallops. Ugh.
The car looks great the way it is now, but if you are wanting some scallops, I would go with something a little smaller, and not so overpowering. Just my 2 1/2 cents. -joe
