i agree with the ones who said fewer scallows and straighter maybe like version b but a little bigger scallops instead or something,
[ QUOTE ] Sometimes less is more [/ QUOTE ] I totally agree. If you HAVE to put scallops of some kind on there.....Kritz' rendition, or Zekes are much better IMHO. But I still think you should leave it alone
I really want to thank everybody for their honesty. You guys (and girls) have some great ideas and that's what I wanted. After talking to BRUSH last night I decided to look at some more traditional scallops that he did a while back. Obviously the primary color would be black and the scallops would be red but the overall look would match this. What do ya think of these?
I personally like those scallops brush did for you a lot better, w/the dump tubes, and the wheels in pic #2. I have to be honest and say I think the red is a bit tired, how about gold? You could do just about any color over black.. Either way, great car, I love it. Good luck man!!! Jim
Yea, those are much better scallops, still to flashy for me, how about some black-walls, black wheels, spider caps and the exhaust dumps in the fender wells, it's already my favorite color black.
Well, since you asked I really don't care for scallops too well on those shoeboxes. Too sixties/seventies in my book for a 50's rod. I'd prefer to see some kind of flame job, not too overpowering but tastefully done. Well.. thats my ****hole...oh I mean opinion.
I like the idea of flames or nothing BUT I do like flames more than nothing EVERYTHING looks better flamed
Rich, Brush's version would be a safe way to go. Very tasteful and I'm sure a lot of folks would like it....since it's been done many times before. If you're after a hot rod look I'd go the tubes, if you want custom I'd say pipes. I still like the wheels in #2 or a set of '50 Caddy caps.
If you have your heart set on changing the look if the car Rich, then by all means, go for it. The point was made about your last two cars streaching the envalope with great success. I know what it's like to have a "Nice" car but not something that jumps out at you. The last rendering is way closer to what I would invision for scallops on a nice shoebox such as your new black car. To tell you the truth I could see the car done with the sea-weed style flames and a big wheel combo and slamed on the ground too. But please don't repeat that, I'd hate to blow my cover I'm sure with your past efforts and how cool they came out you will end up with something that makes you happy first, and also something that will be a knockout.
I was going with #2 until I read the entire thread. The minimal designs and the last drawing were all better.
I like Zeke's, Kritz's and Brushes' versions. I think the original versions were a little too busy and I agree with the swooping scallops having the wrong lines... it almost like they are fighting the car for attention. It's hard to choose, but if it was my car, I'd go with Brush's version. Did anyone see that episode of Rides with Joe Rogan? They were doing a hemi cuda and Foose had proposed a really busy intensly graphic paint scheme for it. At the last minute Rogan insisted that they go with a straight silver instead of Foose's proposal and the car looked just right at end. I"m saying all of this without knowing what they car looks like in its current state. Good luck making the choice, in the end the only opinion that matters is yours. Stacey
I like Brush's scallops. And I agree with whomever said, that Red is tired. Go for something more fun than red! You can do it Rich LESS IS MORE!
I'd go for a less scalloped version, but would choose the #3 version if I had to pick one of yours Good luck and keep us posted ! /
IMO all of them look too overdone. almost pro-street in some respects. I like my **** pretty plain, so I'm may be the wrong guy to talk too. I would leave your car the way it is and pour all of that money into another project... like a bike or an RPU...
My opinion, I like the last one Brush did, mostly because I like flames/scallops on the roof. The dumps look cool but only if you have the motor to back them up. I also kind of like the scallops in #2 because they are different with the long downward curve. I was watching something on the speed channel the other day and they had some restored 49/50 Fords and I have to say they looked pretty dang good stock with plain shiny paint and bright chrome.
Here's a quickity quick sketch -- simple Watson-style panel outlines with a few scallops. Avoid red scallops on a black car, lest ye be already outdated with the "Rat Rod" movement.
Ok its a nice car but, I think we forget to chop the top the manditory 14 inches or so to be in style today? Being able to see to drive is highly overated! Seriously I like the scallops straight to match the line of the rockers. But I'd shorten them too. Often less is more.
It's been a while since I have posted... But I need to definitely voice my opinion here! What ever you do - don't do red with black primer! And don't do the curved "scallops" Watson-style outlines are the way to go. Go with a green or purple with candy or flake. If you absolutely have to do red - go with candy or flake. Then do the wheels to match - with spiders... Oh yeah - Don't forget the 1-Shot! (pinstriping) My 2 cents... Worth about .005 cents after taxes...
My .02. Brush's version without the scallops on the roof. I dig the Olds caps from#1 and lakes pipes from #2. I like the stance in #1. I agree with the mul***ude on the red and blac If you have the Watson book, there's a shoebox with flames that rise from the bottom of the car and go all the way around, One of Larry Watson's first flame jobs, 1958 or '59, I think. The owner was Lowell Helms. He was in the original Long Beach Renegades. Anyhoot, there's an idea I've not seen anyone use lately.
WOW Bdrake... That IS a nice shoebox... I bet the owner of THAT one doesn't want to throw a buch of silly graphics all over it!
