I like the one Brush did fer ya. The black-and-white version. It's the cleanest, and has some tradition and thought behind it. Shoeboxes don't need a lot of effects to cover up the nice design, so keeping it simple is the way to go (and looks the best from the 49s-51s I've seen). My caution is not to fall into the trap that "if everyone has red wheels, then I guess I gotta do that too. Oooo, lakes pipes". Take some time, think out what you want, and be original. I'm way envious of your car, though. Enjoy that thing!!
A lot of us are missing one important fact. It's Your Car! Build it the way you like. If you like curved scallops, so be it. If you took the time to have drawings made, you must have thought about it. That's why they call em Kustoms Craig
Kritz rendition is cool. Not so early 90's street rod looking. More traditional. Curved scallops on a slabsided car just doesn't make sense to me. When I think about scallops I like them to compliment the shape of the car, not to be the main feature of the car. If you're hellbent on curved, Zeke's idea + the red wheels would look pretty tough. It is your car though. You do whatcha' gotta' do.
OK Rich I've been watching this thread for awhile now and felt it was time for me to ring in:Scallops are not for that car.The only Shoebox I ever saw that had decent scallops was a black ragtop(a 51 I think)and had blue/green metallic scallops in a very tight straight back pattern with white outlines.I think it had a 54 Chevy grille with extra teeth too.The 49-50 hoods with the rise in the center just don't seem to take well to scallops whereas the 51 with the straight across top bar can handle it. If you must scallop it,I would use a tight straight-back pattern(maybe 3"max between points)in a less contrasty color(medium dark metallic blue/green/purple),keep the points on the hood parallel with the rear edge, and have the side points end staggered at about a 20-30 degree angle from vertical.Keep 'em thin and use a high contrast but thin outline stripe;maybe white or light grey.Paint the wheels the same color as the scallops and use a small smoothy cap and a single or double stripe the same color as the scallop outline.OR.............. You could leave it as is(my vote) Ray
Hmmm... you guys notice how many of Rich's friends from MI are telling him to leave the damn thing alone???
[ QUOTE ] Hmmm... you guys notice how many of Rich's friends from MI are telling him to leave the damn thing alone??? [/ QUOTE ] I will forth or.... sixth that!!! Your car is the best looking 50 I've seen in a long time.... It reminds me of Rudy's forty, only ten years older. oh yeah...how's it going guys?
I sorta like Zeke's version. It's different and sorta grabs you I definately like Harings version. Something about the single scallop coming from above the bullet in the grill just looks cool. But then again I'm partial to scallops that outline the car and are simple. My 48 had scallops like that. What color is the interior? That should decide what the scallops are. Unless it's a neutral color. Any of the wheel combos will work. Clark
chopped a drawn picture...i shortened one scallop i didnt feel like doin em eall its not too east to photoshop a drawn picture...
I vote for Kritz's Pipes and his scallops are very similar to Brush's so I will second either of those (red w/white pinstriping). Put on some chrome reverse wheels or get some spider caps and loose the beauty rings. Oh, and pinstripe the **** out of it....it keep's the HAMB economic infrastructure more sound.

Hot Rod Drummer, Been awhile, how's everything going with you and your dad? I thought we were going to have a breakfast over your way and visit the shop. Light a fire under HRLC and make it happen. Frank
couple days late.... but i like #1. with much bigger whites and chopped. you forgot the chopped version.
[ QUOTE ] Did someone say Black with flames and olds flippers? My old truck! That gets my vote [/ QUOTE ] Man! Without the flames, this truck was the fine, fine, super-fine pick up for the whiteboy in East LA in 1956. The rake was the identifier. The flames are cool, but they're not '56 style. But the Fiestas, red rims white walls, and stance? Period perfect! Coulda ran with the Imperials. The '56 reference? It's when I started drawing cars. Man! that makes my addiction over 48 years! Sorry for hi-jacking this post. I was drinking California wine, burnin' some Mexi and well, Grumpy's PU got me to ramblin'.

Thanks HRD

I don't want to sound super ****ing rude, but I don't like the scallops, and I am not a big fan of wheel well dump exhaust pipes. I don't car for lakers on MOST customs, but some look okay. Well...I would go with the lakers and flipper caps, with skirts and the *** dragging. A little outta the top, and ALL black. No scallops. Oh, that's not all on the menu? Sorry. Hey, honest opinion, right?
