Yeah, yeah, I know. I haven't even got rid of the 53 Nash project that never got off the ground and I said I would never buy another project until my present project [a 41 Pontiac business coupe] was up and goin.......
    ......I'm a weak failure...............
And I was doing so well too! I'd gone to the local swap meet out in corn county where all the farmers drag their stuff to sell...only bought a pair of painted 40 chevy bumpers with brackets for a possible install on my 41 Pontiac coupe.....spent a whole 20 bucks for them and my buddy and I were driving back home. We weren't bothering anyone and were only 5 or 6 miles from our 'hood when suddenly, without warning, we rounded a corner to see a huge "Farm Auction" sign... there were 4 wheel drive pickups parked on both sides of the road for blocks and we could hear the auctioneer warming up over the Rocky Goodtime Van's 350 chevy.
To make a long story short, I was the lone bidder on this 195? Willys Overland [says so right on the VIN tag] 4X4 pickup.
I HAD TO! Can't you see? The focker is rust-free with only a few superficial, teeny-tiny dents in it. All the junk I wouldn't use in my hotrod pickup build have already been sold off before I got there. That's why it was only 50 bucks! A mere pittance. It looks pretty good in the field but I hadda "restructure" all the junk in my storage garage to fit it in with all my treasures. That made me late for dinner and that pissed off mrs Rocky. Yeah, I'm already in trouble over the damn thing and she doesn't even know about it yet....told her I bought 'some stuff' at the swap meet and hadda make room for it...some stuff alright.
Anybody feeling like photo-shopping this beasty? I'd love to see it slammed with steelies and a real-live midwest farmer flatbed! Feel free to remove a little wheelbase from the rear. The 50's chevy enclosed-driveline rear axle is just chained in place to get the jewel home. It's placed about 5 inches to the rear of the rear-spring center bolts. The new axle will be moved forward a bit, where it belongs. Here 'tis, in the farmer's field, right where I bought it......
But I promise I will not turn a wrench on it until the pontiac is on the street with the nova sub and 389, 4 speed in it....

I see it with a MAS 6 or 7 inch dropped front axle, stepped rear frame with some 30 inch tall snows on the back and skinnys on the front. Pro-farm!
I gotta helluva plan for a door logo...
Patina will prolly stay for awhile.

Check out this art-deco cast dash Piece! I wonder if a motorsickle speedo would work in the smallish hole? Anybody ever try one? Are they 100 r's per mile like a automotive speedo?

Thanks, Kust. Here's where the poor little truck resides right now...in hibernation until I can get to it.
The frame is perfect but small! I think my 283 [need 301 pistons] would be a perfect choice for it. I gotta chevy full synchro 3 speed O.D. comin for it and my kid blessed me with a mail-jeep rear end if I want it...3.73 posi.

Rocky, mine was identical(as an old fart can remember) to yours. 1954(peaked grille and dash pieces are the same) I had the 4 cyl w/ 4.56 gears. I checked with Mr. Ratner( the Willys guy) and it was like a 1000.00 for highway gears. So I bought a rusty low mileage 77 3/4 ton 4x4 suburban. Shortened the frame 11" slid the motor and trans back about 6" and had the toughest son a ***** I ever had. It was a real "Teddy Roosevelt" one rough ridin' sum *****.

On the east coast, it seemed like every other gas station had one for parts hauling and lot plowing in the early 60's. I love 'em

What a great tow vehicle. Their short wheel base lets you back a trailer down a 100' alley.

Mr Ratner used to sell a replacement bed and lots of mech. stuff. He's gettin up there now. I don't know how much he still carries but you should check him out. I'd look in Hemmings.

Last I heard my old 54 was still mashin' cow pies up in West Virginia someplace.

I love these trucks - Hell, I love anything Willy's or Kaiser. Had more W-O's & Kaisers than I can remember, it is a sickness

The split windshield is pre 60, the 5 bar grill is 54 & earlier. The rear should be a Dana 35 keyed hub. Very nice trucks will look great with the FarmerFlatBed and add a beer keg tank under the front of the bed.

    Lets see some photochops [IMG]

Rocky, that's ugly as hell. You are sick. Sell it at a profit. Splitting your time between projects means that nothing ever gets done.

Rocky if you need parts let me know.I just drug one home like it a couple weeks ago a friend gave me. I had visions of a chopped top g***er, BBC motor with headers out the side, major slicks. But... bought a 37 plymouth truck last night so that is next and the willys will go.

LOL at 50 bucks any non rusted through vehicle is hard to p*** up! [IMG] I like the look of it chopped. The doors with the exterior stamping (or whatever you call it) are kind of cool.

Cool truck! For $50, what are ya gonna do? I feel your pain. Just about the time I get some space cleared out some wise *** comes along and gives me something I didn't know I desperately needed either for free or $50.

"Hi I'm Big Daddy Eric and I'm addicted to projects. I'd like to welcome a new member today, Rocky who is also an addict. Hi Rocky!" LOL

I think the only way to stop many of us is to take away our trucks and tow vehicles. LOL

    Rocky -
Here's my .02 - keep it with the Jeep theme and run a nice built AMC motor with a 727 or 4 spd.
