Just for the curious. Concerning times on ice vs. asphalt/other surfaces. World Ralley has it's FASTEST rally on ice/snow in Finland every year.
From WRC Site I found the following.

Not surprising when you really think about it. Studs digging into an appropriate surface for them will produce more grip than slicks trying to adhere to a surface appropriate for slicks.

You Yankees have a good time in that stuff. I had my fare share of ice/snow racing in Indy a few years back. NO THANKS!!! I'll take my heat, when it finally shows up!!!

Dude, I need to find a pic of the car I bought a few years ago. Think circle track ch***is with 80's camaro body and a World of Outlaws sprint car wing on the roof. There was a 3 foot length of railroad welded to the rear with 4" wide studded tires all the way around. It cornered harder than any of the cars on dirt at the local track.

Some runs incurred errors on the lights... which can happen with the blowing snow.

One time was because of the airplane landing adjacent to the Dragstrip created a distraction for the racers and they re-ran the cars for that incident.

In the case of eliminations they brought up the eliminated cars for the final places from 3rd- 5th positions.

It was pretty hard to hear what and why things were happening but it did make sense for the elimination breakdown.

Blown and injected cars came out late and rumbled the ice and echoed throughout the valley.

We had a trailer handy for warming up the the limbs... complete with a back window facing the racetrack that was open to the young ones and the old ones like BobK...!

Well... "Bonneville has Salt Lake racing"... and Wisconsin has "Frozen Lake racing"...!

We have river races as well with plenty of left and right turns however it's nice for the spectators to have the ability to view the whole track such as in Drag racing and circle tracks.

You should see the tire technology... 18 pounds of Drywall Screws" in the rear tires alone...!

Just got word that my favorite car started making "Expensive noises"... the flat black Model A coupe suffered major engine problems and won't be in the finals...!

I would like to be there. It is about an hour and a half north for me I think.

 

I'm tentatively planning on going January 30th. The Ice Draggers web site says racing starts at noon, is there anything (trial runs, etc) going on before noon?

 

every year i say i'm going to get over there..........every year i forget, or have a ton of birthday parties or some other **** going on.

 

Just left the drags... Scott and Tim were manning the gates and cordial as ever.

Thanks fellas for a Great Racing venue with an equally Great group of Racers!

5 weeks of weekend fun and excitement... funny how cold weather and snow would stop most other wheeled racing... but NOT HERE... it's just a better excuse to get the car ready to play outside!
