After searching to normal sites I have been unable to pin down exactly what his engine is. Head casting number is 14101083. Wondering if it is a roller cam. engin casting nmbers 1.jpg engine casting numbers 2.jpg

Easily identifiable as a non corvette engine by the lack of orange paint.:)

That don't show the grease and oil so bad black. I had a buddy who thought that was the only color you could paint an engine no matter what color it was supposed to be.
Those truck engine suffix codes are sometimes hard to find unless you use the same source Jim has.

Not a roller, but maybe a 4 bolt main since it's a truck engine.

That may depend on who's cylinder head chart you look at.
Chevy Hard core says : 14101083: 1987 350ci. Originally came on crate engines with 285 hp or 300 hp. 64cc chambers, 72-degree center manifold-bolt angles.
That from here (one I hadn't used before) Swap Meet Guide To Small-Block Chevy Cylinder Head ID (chevy********.com)
    Mortec says :
14101083...87-up...350..........Gen.I, also used on crate motors, 285 or 300 hp, 64cc
    chambers, 72' center manifold bolt
    angles

With the factory applied serial number and suffix code on the block the crate motor thing doesn't jive very well. Checking the Mortec site I'd say the Chevy ******** guys ***umed rather than researched.

Thanks guys, it is a very clean, low mileage engine. No reason to take anything apart to find out if it a roller. Just wondering if I need high zink oil or not. I paint all my engines black, no matter who built them.

I’ve an ‘89, well, my kid does now that I bought new. Has 083 heads on it. I also think they were available on some crate engines as well
