That number stamped on the rear pad is a partial VIN number, they started doing that in 68 but not all cars got it - the production line was potty at best about that in the early years. You need the casting number that is above the starter to know more
Is the 9 J 27 number cast or stamped? I would expect it to be cast. If so, that would indicate Oct 27, 19?9. notice it doesn't tell you what decade it's from. Did you find any numbers that start with something like C8AE, or maybe D4TE, or E2AE or similar? they would be quite helpful to narrow down what decade it's from etc.
cast no I dint see any number like that on the block .nothing around the starter area.i know what to look for but isn't seeing anything like I should
nope don't have one of those 3.nothing on the front nothing in the back where be covered by a bell housing nothing on driver side either.nothing along top of timing cover . only the the lazer etched lxi 12597 on rear pad near firewall
That lxi, is it really in lower case letters? or don't you have a functioning SHIFT key on your keyboard? Just trying to make it easier for folks to help you....maybe you could do the same? I know what the characters in the partial VIN on a Chevy mean, I wonder if it's the same on a Ford?
Can you post pictures of the engine itself? Especially in the areas indicated. Starting to sound like you either have a non-302 Ford, or a completely different engine. If it is a 302, depending on what you're wanting to use it for, the specifics of the engine and block may not matter much. Really the only significant change to the block itself was the provision for roller cams in the mid-80's, other than different blocks with higher nickel content (and even the ones with the lower nickel content will do fine for a street motor). What really changed was the heads and cam. If you can see numbers on the heads at all, maybe post those? or is it just a bare block?
If it looks like the picture below, it's E7TE, which is the '87 up block. The casting is the "truck" block, but was used in lots of applications. The 5.0 HO engines in particular. It's set up for roller cam, has the dipstick in the block... the basic late 80's-early 90's 5 liter. The date code would be Sept 27 1989. (Note to squirrel: The month I is skipped, so it won't be confused with 1)
I know its nothing just helps when you get parts for it. wanted to make sure it was a roller to get correct flywheel
