I know the kingpins on the left are Model A. What V8 pins are the center and left ones? I am wanting to use a 42 spindle on a Model A axle. Do I use the 42 spindle bearing on a Model A axle with 42 spindle? Note that the right one has the slot in a slightly different distance from the top.
The middle one looks like it would work with Model A or '32-'36 spindles using the original bearing on top of the axle - would be good for using hydraulic Lincoln or Ford brakes on the early spindle. I don't know why it is longer - it is a bit like an English Ford Pilot kingpin, as they use '36-style spindles but with a funny hydraulic brake, so doesn't need the cup on top. I don't know the exact dimensions, but I understand that '42-up spindles are a half-inch or so taller than '37-'40, with a correspondingly longer kingpin, in which case that may be a '42 one in the middle, and the one to use with your spindles. Drop it through your spindle, line up the notch with the cotter pin hole in the axle, and if there is room below the axle for the support bearing, then that's the one! The third one looks like the standard '37-'41 kingpin. I would be interested to know if the '42 kingpin (if that's what it is) does work with the early spindles, if anyone has experience of this?
If they are all .812 dia the first one is a model A The second one is 1942-48 car and 1942-52 pickup Last one is 1937-41 Ford www.droppedaxles.com
When swapping spindles on early Ford axles use the kingpins for the year of the spindles and all will be well.
