History ID the big coupe in this 1934 Army picture?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Just Gary, Dec 16, 2021.

  1. Anyone know what this coupe is?
It's a lot bigger than a Ford and the A-post looks kinda like a '32 Chevy. Maybe a GM product- Cad, Olds, LaSalle, etc?

    Thanks!

Lippy, the first thing I noticed was the lazy S on the front hub cap, then the search was on.

    It's not a Stude, it's a 1929 Oakland Standard Coupe!

  10. I did notice that the opening photo seems to show a 3-hinge door, while the Studebaker has a 2-hinge.
The rendering in post #9 of the Oakland seems like the artist fudged a bit by deleting the hinges entirely. The copy in the Oakland ad mentions the golf bag compartment door so my money is on the Oakland.

  11. Looks more like and Oakland to me.

Check the hood side vents… I’m leaning more to the Oakland now.

As for the missing door hinges in the rendition. Ford advertising cars never have antennas or side view mirrors some say for looks, I say because they were options. Some counter, so was 2-tone paint.
