My friend said he thought it was a "Continental " engine .Does anyone know by looking at it.I don't know much about Flatheads period .He turned the oil pan around to put it in a little dozer but took ended up taking it out a while back and now its mine.
yup, that's a Chrysler corp trademark, not likely to be a continental...more likely to be a Dodge, Desoto, Plymouth, or Chrysler engine. look for a stamped number
I didn't take a pic of that side. I was excited and distracted by this gift and other stuff at his place..I will when it gets here.
look for the stamped number here on the side of the block, near the top front. Should have a letter and numbers sequence at the beginning like P10 which would be for something like a 1940 plymouth. P plymouth, D dodge, C chrysler, S desoto
Cool .He said he got it in the crate and ran smooth . He is an army truck guy and thought it was for them.
Remote control ? Well once again thanks guys for the info and helping me out and answering my newb questions .
An old codger once told me that the letter in the DPCD embossing that is exaggerated indicates which division the part came from. In this case, it is the P. I have seen other exaggerated letters, matching the division of the part origin. Not sure if this is all bunk, though.
The D's I have seen where simply larger than the other letters (taller, slightly wider). I have seen a big C too. Might just be casting mold variances.
Well shoot ..... Do you think that would work in a 41 Plymouth ? I'm sure a guy can get anything to "work". Maybe the transmission thats in it already will bolt up to this engine. Can I turn it into a floor shift?Damn
If you have the complete transmission and bellhousing then you would probably be better off using what's in the car. It's hard to say...you're going to have to look things over carefully. Often, car and truck bell housings and flywheels were different.
Thanks squirrel .Yeah I will have to have a closer look at what I'm working with.It will all work out in the end.It must!
Once you get the number squirrel suggested, this site might be of some use in identifying what you have http://t137.com/registry/help/otherengines/otherengines.php
I saw this 4 banger today at work ..It's not stuck.I think it ran a generator . I wonder what kinda transmission would hook up to it?
