Ideas for mounting switches and gauges

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mike in Tulsa, Jul 18, 2010.

  1. Anybody got any cool ideas for mounting air ride toggle switches and gauges. I'll have 2 dual needle gauges and 4 switches. Any pics? I found a gauge cluster that would work but wouldn't mind making something. Going in my 51 GMC. Just need some ideas. Thanks.

  2. If you had buckest switches and gauges under a cover in the console might be pretty slick.

Not going with air ride in my current project but I may have a console for my shifter and I'm thinking about putting all my switches in the console just because its closer and more convienient than the dash.

if you are not interested in making something, you could always go through the mail order catalogs-Jeg's, Summit, etc... and look at the drag racing panels, they have provisions for both gauges and simple switches, you could probably find them brused, bare steel and even chrome-just a thought!!!

theres a build thread on here of an AD if Fla. he built a switch and gage bracket and hid it in the radio cutout behind a flip down grill.

  5. I'm going to hide mine in the ashtray in the '65 Riviera(some day).

  6. put them in a old aircraft instrument cockpit panel that should be fun.i always found it cool when ppl mixed airplane parts and cars together .... now i just need to figure out how to bolt on some wings short enough not to go in the other lane ?!?!?!

  7. Thanks guys. I was looking for something like this for a gauge panel if I bought one but I can't find one anywhere - 2 gauges and 4 switches. This one comes with the gauges and switches for $195. Not happening - besides I already have the gauges and switches, I just need the panel. I guess I'll be making something, just not sure what yet.

You could hide the switches and mount the guages in a regular 2 guage holder under dash...

I'm curious too, I'd like to do something that looks a bit more period correct for my '64 Olds. I have a panel from an old dehumidifier that says "Air King" on it, thought about bending that up and cutting the holes in it for 2 gauges and 2 toggle type manual valves.

I also thought about using a 60's vintage 3 hole gauge cluster panel, putting the gauges on either side, then using an insert panel in the middle to mount the switches to.

The one pictured above I'm not real hot for, looks too fabricated.

  10. What about a panel under the dash, mounted on a hinge, and flip it up when not in use?
