Ideas needed for attaching a 32 Ford pass lower dash to a 34 Ford PU upper dash.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Max Gearhead, Jan 30, 2012.

  1. I have a gauge panel that fits a 32 pass dash so I need to mate the lower half of a 32 pass dash with the upper half of my 34 truck dash. Any suggestions?

  2. Tinbender, You missed a couple steps. Cut, Weld, Grind.

Welding would be a better option than pop rivets. :(

  4. Duct tape and super glue. :D

  5. I guess I should have asked where you would cut & splice the two dashes. Never done this before so I for sure don't want to screw up two dashes.

We put a complete 32 dash in our 34 PU. Just had to widen it a small amount each end. Why ?? because some numnuts had screwed up the original 34 dash a tried to join two dashes together just under the swage and kind of through it in places , cut with a can opener and trowled over. Possibly was an original top with a colonial lower but both got buggered.

Hi Jim, aren't the dashes basically the same, just with the gauge oval open on the '32? Perhaps a pic of your two would help see what needs matching to what?

  8. Hi Andy. The lower car dash is pretty much flat and the truck dash is kind of dished. I've got one of Alchemy's SUPER cool dash panels that is made to fit a 32 pass dash so I need to somehow make it work in the truck dash. I have access to one of those Model A dashes that are made to look like a 32 dash so I'm thinking that maybe I can combine the two. I'd rework the A dash to fit but they don't have an upper rail like the 32 car and 34 truck have. Just looking for any ideas on how someone else might do this swap.

Think i get it, Jim. If it's not as easy as eyeing up where the two dashes 'touch', and going straight for that, then I would cut the 'disposable/easily replaceable' Model A dash just below the upper rail, and lay it on the original one to see where it fits, trimming a bit here and there as necessary until it looks right, then marking the truck one and trimming it to match. Does seem a bit of a shame chopping up your truck dash, if it is a good one, but at least if you have a large chunk left over below the top rail, it might be helpful/saleable to someone else.

  10. Thanks Andy, good info. With my vision problems it's hard to eyeball stuff so this project is a bit of a problem.

I'm the proud owner of Alchemy dash #24 and it fits a Brookville '32 for 30-31 Roadster dash panel perfectly. I think I'd lay it over the truck dash scribe a cut line on top and weld the two together.

  12. would you please snap some pictures on the fitment of the dash insert on top of the dash. i have a 32 truck and really would like to run alchemys dash panel.

    thanks!

  13. Hey Jim, the other day when I looked at it I thought it would work with not to much modification. I can take a ride over and we'll talk about it and maybe I can take it back with me and stare at it for awhile. That's what I did with my 31 Stude dash I modified to fit in my A Roadster, that turned out pretty good. Then we can get working on putting together a HAMB chop to get rid of about 4 inches.

  14. Sounds good Don. Thanks!
