I guess if I was that paranoid about my car getting stolen, I'd just get a POS that nobody else would want...........

  3. The very few hot rods stolen down here, have been found within a few days. Maybe you could move down to the South Island. Less crime, and wed love to have your willys down here, :)

  4. Years ago I utilized an electric fuel line solenoid to shut off fuel.
A thief could start and run it for about 60-90 seconds then he was dead flat outta gas.
    Loved that system. Highly effective.
    Even fooled me once.

  5. No rotor - no go, simple and quick, most dipshits would probably flatten the battery before realising what was wrong. JW your making our country look like its a land of crim's by starting this topic!!

  6. Mate after reading this I think it's time for you to shift to the South Island, hell I leave my keys in the cars parked outside at night..

Let's see; You could do the cigarette lighter trick. You could also put a reed switch behind the dash somewhere close to the key switch, and have a favorite medallion for the key fob. Epoxy a strong magnet into the fob, and stick it to the dash right at the reed switch location.

Lockable steering column, lockable handbrake (look for an LJ50 Suzuki convertible as they had a lockable handbrake). Hidden isolation switch on the ignition or the electric fuel pump.

No need to get******** in your underwear over not getting your car stolen. Removing a rotor to me is too much trouble. I have a simple ignition kill switch and just want to make it difficult for a thief so he moves on to another car. Besides if they really want your car they will get it no matter what you do or where it is.

I had a racecar quick release on the mast of my roadster...carried the 3 spoke Bell wheel into Original Joe's for dinner...Talk about a 'conversation piece'!

  15. It needs to be easy enough so that you will actually DO what it necessary.
Seeing the car, I'd go for a fake coil wire, AND an ignition cutoff. One is slightly easier than the other, and the easy one would be best for the quick trip to the store or what not.

If it could be managed, the kill could be a cigar lighter that would either be pushed in to energize the circuit, or pulled out and pocketed to kill the ignition. That's as easy as I can envision.

I pop the clips on my distributer when I'm in an iffy neighborhood, that way they can start it and get a block or so before it dies. It isn't like they'll stop to troubleshoot it

How about getting a couple of those Police boots that lock on the wheels? Put one on a front tire, and one on a rear tire.

    Really, I'd go for:
    1) the gas shut off.
    2) the steering locked to one side
    3) some kind of 4 wheel brake lock
    4) proper amount of insurance. Gene

Thanks guys, as I have said , I now know what im going to do.
I cant remember the last time a hot rod was stolen in New Zealand but that may change as times change and thieves try other things to get a quick buck and don't get me wrong, my 26T isn't the flashest most desirable hot rod out there but its mine and I just want to keep it on my terms. Also this may help others think about their own car security and save someone the heartache of loosing a prized possession.
    Keep em coming. Cheers. JW:cool:
PS; kiwijeff, its to damn cold down there, very nice but cold this time of year, my two Willys and the T are staying put, for now. Cheers Jeff. JW:D

I read all these suggestions and no one suggested the old motorcyclist standby. Lock that*****er to something that won't move. Remove your ignition key and enjoy your visit. A big**** chain around the front axle and locked with a huge lock to a parking meter or tree would do the trick. Yeah. Takes some work but so would replacing your ride. And, don't get pissed and forget to unlock. Might be embarrassing. But Officer!

I like it, reminds me of a friend in the 70s that had a Triumph motor cycle that was chained to a large apple tree. He came home to find the tree lying on the ground and the bike gone !!.....extreme case I know, If they want it they will get it.......just got to make it harder.
To all those who say to remove the rotor on a small block Chev, this is to time consuming for a short time away from the car, Ford maybe........Chev no. JW

Used to see a Harley parked in San Diego with a military web belt and opened and empty 45 cal holster strapped around the tank.

I use a battery cut off and in extreme locations such as a motel thats poorly lighted, a fuel cut off. I seldom use the fuel cut off though. It all comes down to common sense. I wouldn't be too concerned at a car show, but the battery cut off should suffice. I have driven my roadster 50K and my woodie 35K and cross country, with zero problems. Lets face it if they want it bad enough they will get it. A couple of years ago, I won't mention the motel, several people literally watched a car being loaded onto a rollback with the alarm blaring and it was being stolen!
