I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess Chevrolet? 283-327 chevy, but will fit almost any SBC. Early ones had staggered bolt pattern, latter ones (87 and up) have center bolt.
Im gonna guess and say....Chevrolet- ya...definately Chevrolet! Looks to be from a late 60's early 70's 350 small block. Are there metal clips on the edge of the side not pictured?
Im gonna take a stab at this and guess he just wants to know so he can powdercoat them and properly identify to sell on Fleabay considering he doesnt have a pre 64 car listed.....or an American vehicle listed for that matter.
I'm thinking that they are for an oldsmobile to make it look like a chevy, of course they are missing the centerbolt adapter brackets
They came on 283s from 59 up until they put the PCV valve in the valve cover. I can't quote the year for that. Although they will fit the 327, the 327 came with a very distinctive valve cover all it's own. For years they were thrown in the scrap pile or cut up to adjust the valves but I have come around to really like them. I found a nice set in a junk yard, bead blasted them, painted them and got close to 50 bucks for them on the Bay. Probably not worth my effort but at least they got saved for somebody that needed them.
265/283 staggered bolts 283 straight bolts 327 (some) came on all cars truck and corvette (some chrome)
Thanks for the humour from the uneducated comedians. From the picture you can tell there are 4 semetrical bolts. I see a post that said 327s had both symmetrical and staggered bolt patterns. Which years had the symmetrical ones? I do not have an American car listed here, I was trying to indentify these and thought it might be a good place to start. I do custom powder coating for a living. I will post a pic of it when it is done. Someone else said 59-67 283s, did they come on any others like 327s or 350s?
I see now through a little more research that these were the original covers as far back as the 1955 265.
I think only 55-57 265 and 283 had staggered bolt holes. I think that in 58 they went opposite. I know of no 327 that had staggered bolt heads as the first 327 was 1962. Thats what I remember, but then my memory is fading with age........

59-67 283 sounds right. 327's had 327 valve covers. by the time 350's came out they were done with those valve covers. all 265's were staggered hole.
57 to 65 283 I think--stagger bolts were 55 thru mid 58 as I recall (changed about May of 58 from stagger to straight across)-have never seen these on a 327 as others have stated.

Well i wouldnt cal them uneducated comedians, comedians might have been better, your the one asking about a 283 chevy valve cover. a better way to ask your question would be. "im a powder coater and powder coating these chevy valve covers, was wonding what year motors they fit." you probably would have gotten less comedic answer. they came on 283's from 59 till i think 67.
That very well could be. I believe his is an earlier '59 build. Wouldn't make sense to trash all the staggered style cylinder heads they may have had left over.
I asked what years and what motors, not what make. Its obvious to everyone but a bind man( and even he could figure out htey were from a Chevy) they were from a Chevy. I asked what year Grants tomb was built and how high it was not who was buried in it.
His profile says 18 year NASCAR driver. I would think a NASCAR driver would know a little bit about valve covers, I mean Chevrolet has been in the racing game for 50+ years. Of course he could be JJ, I don't think he even knows what a valve cover is bolted to.
Maybe, but your example asks the same question only identifies me as a coater. How would this have made a differance to the guys that said they were from a Chevy?
You drive a car, does that mean you know every part that was made by every manufacturer for every year since the first one? I have worked on Chevys for years as well as other makes. Just didnt know exactly what years these covers came from. There are no exaggerations in my profile. They are bolted to the valves right?
