This radiator shell has caught my eye and I am trying to identify it. I really thought wiping the dust off the insignia and a photo and would be able to match it up on the internet to something. No luck yet. I only took the 1 photo, sorry if not enough info. I had to squeeze through shelfs, trip over transmissions and bell housings, stand on a bucket to reach this thing and wipe the dust off the insignia. Someday soon I will dig it out, but it will be a all day project to get to this corner.
Nope. Not Star either. looks almost like a Model T shell with a personalized emblem. I have never seen that particular emblem before, but I certainly have not seen them all.
shined up it would be red and silver. almost shaped like a + sign or cross. silver cross on red background
Without seeing a size comparison I would guess it's an aftermarket T shell. I have seen T shells with a lot of different names and emblems pressed into them.
I got a chance to dig it out today, was pretty easy. Now I am confused even more, wonder if it is really for some kind of toy car. It measures 20" wide and 22" tall. It is solid steel, but not very heavy gauge, it is not original Henry Ford steel anyways. Looks like maybe garage art to me. But here are better pictures.
Almost undoubtedly an aftermarket early T radiator, the shape and dimensions are right. Judging by the emblem being visible from the back and no Ford script I don't think the emblem is something an owner stuck on, although even your closeup pic of the emblem is dirty and out of focus, I can't really read it.
Thanks squablo, I did not realize the model T radiator would be so small. I have a project that am putting some parts together for, and thought it might work nicely. As soon as I saw the size I lost interest. Not sure why the camera just does not want to get good focus. I did not have my gl***es on, typically can just take the photo then load it on my pc and blow it up for greater detail. Not this emblem though. There is actually letters on the emblem. At 10 oclock I think is a H, 2 oclock a A, 6 oclock a E. But just plan on hanging it on the wall for now. Thanks all again.
Here is another photo compared to a real Ford model T shell. The width 0f 20.5" is right on, mine seems to be 2" taller then some others, but since it is a re-pop, it can be any size it wants. And I measured mine different then how they say to measure, so could change there also. I believe it is a aftermarket model T shell and the emblem is probably the maker of the shell.
The hexagonal design suggests Es***, but the lettering is strange. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm guessing an aftermarket shell with a possible fraternal emblem in place. Fraternal organizations were quite popular in the 1920's, the age of this shell. As a interesting side bar, the Ford script was trademarked. So many replacement parts used the Ford type but instead of 'Ford" they got way with using "Fool". About as close to the Ford word and script as possible. I've seen a number of after market parts with "Fool" , hubcaps, radiator shells, amp gages and other parts. just sayin' br***carguy
There were "low hood" and "high hood" Model T's which may account for the height difference. I used to have a "Peerless" brand aftermarket T grille shell and I know there were a few other ones. Neat wall hanger at the very least.
When a company like Peerless made their "improved" radiator for a T, they also sold a shell with it. There were other brands of improved radiators as well. That's probably what you have, and hopefully somebody will recognize the brand. I've got a Peerless with a br*** emblem on it, and a Peerless with the lettering just embossed into the steel. IIRC one of them has a droop in the upper edge of the opening, probably just to add a little peculiarity to the product and make people look at the emblem.
A while back Jay Leno found a BAKER which there were only a few made. Same amount of letters? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Got to remember there were 100's of different car companies in the teen's and twenties. My books have lots of pictures different cars that have very similar shape shell but the only one I that I can see the emblem shape that is close is a Tulsa built by the Tulsa Auto MFG. CO. from 1917-1922. One of many possibilities.
Next week will be back over there, will actually pull it out into daylight and clean it, get the exact lettering with a better photo. It is a curious piece now, and the poor photos do not help.
I apologize again for taking such ****py photos and asking for help identifying it. got back over there and cleaned the emblem off and took a photo outside in the light. First hit with google and Hexcel I found this. You bought the aftermarket, new and improved radiator and it came with its own shell. There is a large pile of old radiators in that corner, wonder if might find the original.
