Just curious, has anyone seen, or do you have a mirror/bracket like this one on right side?

It was in my '56 when I got it in '68 but haven't seen another one like it. The mirror on left is from my parts car - also a '56. I got a replacement mirror & it's like the one on left. I like the bracket that came with the car much better, it seems period correct too so had a new head installed, cleaned it up (has minor pitting) & am using it. It was not a day/nite mirror when I got it.

I checked the parts book & couldn't find an accessory/optional inside mirrors for the 56's. I'm thinking maybe TBird or Mercury? Any other ideas?

  3. I'm wondering if the middle/main arm section is part of an exterior (door) miror for '53-'56 F100 that has been altered to suit . I'll go take a look at the arms on my F100 when I get home from work ( About 7 hours away  ).

One of Ford's selling points for its "Lifeguard Design" sales campaign for '56 was the double-swivel interior rear-view mirror. Since I'm not near any parts books until next week I couldn't say with 100% certainty but I seem to recall there was a difference between rear-view mirrors used in Fairlanes versus lesser models. Was your parts car a Mainline or Customline? The crusty one sure looks like what I have in my '55 Victoria, and it will be swapped out for a chrome one from a '55 T-bird.

If I had to wager, I'd bet the chrome one is an exterior mirror altered to work with the rearview mirror. Looks cool though.

Both cars are 2dr Fairlane Victorias, and were built in California within 2 months of each other. The car it was in had been crudely 'customized' in the mid 60s and I know that one of the former owners lived next to a wrecking yard at the time. The mirror bracket doesn't appear to have been altered, as casting marks are visible on the underside of the swivel end. I couldn't find any cast or stamped #s on it.

There are 3 different ones listed in the book - B5A-AP, B6A-B, and a later replacement - C0AB-E. I don't have an OSI (Obsolete, Supercede, Interchange) book but my guess is that the crusty one is the C0AB-E. The other one - ???
