    Howdy all...

I have a 49' Chevy Deluxe with a fresh '57 235 installed. I'm running into fan clearance issues and I've read all about what my options are. I think modifying the long shaft is the best option for me.

With that being said, my water pump looks different from the typical long shaft style. The pump casting is longer, thereby preventing me from pressing the fan hub farther down the pump shaft. Any idea what type of pump this is? (see pix)

I can only ***ume I need to buy a new long shaft water pump (with the exposed shaft) and modify?

Any ideas where I can score a pulley that will work for my application? I hear a SBC will work, but don't know what years will work...

Any info truly appreciated... Thanks in advance...

actually looks like a stock 235 w/pump to me - I'm not sure I've ever seen one with an exposed shaft that would allow you to cut it down.

I shortened a 235 pump for a 56 Pickup that was going in an earlier truck in just the manner you are thinking. I am pretty sure that I used a sbc pulley that was the length I wanted.

After we had the pulley we figured out how much we needed to move the hub back to make them match and then using a press pressed the hub down on the shaft and cut the shaft off with enough left to go through the fan and pulley. It isn't rocket science and took only about a half hour to do start to finish.
