I'm trying to figure out which model 4 jet I have I bough off a guy, it looks complete but is missing the tag with the part number, he said he thinks it is a Buick carb. It is an iron base and I think It has an aftermarket electric choke, any advice will help thank you

    Isn't a G4 a marine carburetor?HRP

Hey, when you view the carb from the top, choke on the left side, look closely at the right rear of the air horn near the screw at the corner. The top will sometimes have the number etched into the carb. Clean the area carfully with lacquer thinner or carb cleaner. I have rebuilt several and the model # is usually there. If not, you will have to match gaskets from Mike's carb web site. Good luck.

  6. It's a Chevy carb. Some kind of power pack deal. Could be a '60 type or a 64-66 series. You might have to measure the venturis to find out for sure.
Let's see the primary venturi cluster (booster).

Note: later model has a 1.437 throttle plates. Look like one from here.

    I have one very similar.
    Rochester 4G.
I'm trying to find an air cleaner to fit it. Due to the rise behind the fuel inlet, aftermarket chromie air cleaners won't clear it.

Looks like a "Frankencarb" to me; part Chevy, part Buick.

  9. You're right, Jon. Didn't notice at first, but the top doesn't have the four Chevy type bowl vents.

The 4G series were really good carbs. There were a few that were rated 700 CFM. Really a great "street sleeper" for the folks that took the time to figure out how they work. Once on an engine, difficult to tell the size.

i got it apart and cleaned but could not find any number stamped, also it was rebuilt with incorrect gaskets and accelerator pump so this should be a fun one to figure out
I agree it looked like 2 different carbs made into one after digging into it

  13. some had larger secondairy throttle's. wouldn't work on a 22o Hp chevt intake. but worked great on a 300 Hp 327 manifold. They are good reliable carbs.

Yes, they're good, reliable carbs; good enough to be used on 340hp 409"s right up to the end of production.

Summit sells a Mr Gasket adapter (MRG8082)to go from the 4GC 4 7/32" opening to the Holley 5 1/8" opening that might be tall enough and give you a wider selection of air filters. If that won't work you could haunt the isles of the Home Depot plumbing department. 4" PVC pipe would work if you Dremel out about a 1/16" from the inside all the way around, then you would have to add a flange to the top. Also look at toilet flanges. Just look at every thing there. A plumbing supply house may even have more. Another thing that may work would be a piece of 4" exhaust pipe if you have a way to expand it to fit over the carb flange.
