Technical identifying a block

    I need info on a V/8 flathead block I just acquired,the tag rivited to the bell housing has a number that starts with an upside down V and has the numbers 4183,the bore measures 3.10 and the heads have 24 studs,I know it is a ford or Merc but what year?

    MOST likely, a 38-41/42 Ford 221 CI engine

    Standard bore would have been 3.0625 for Ford of those years.
