I just bought a 32 5 window coupe out of an estate. I have been looking for a decent coupe in my price range for awhile, and this one was fairly local and is a well built car that should be pretty much what I want once I make some changes. My question is: can any of you guys tell by sight what brand the aftermarket front axle and "split" style wishbones are ? The front axle appears to be 46" from the center of the king pin holes (hard to measure with the grille in the way) and has 2-1/4" bosses, and the spring that is on the car (with weight on it) is 29-3/4" from center of eye to center of eye on the spring. The wishbone is 40-5/8" from the threaded bung end to the center of the spring perch hole. I want to order a chrome non-drilled axle and chrome non-drilled wishbones if possible and be able to use the existing wishbone frame mounts, spring, and other components and ideally have a pretty easy bolt-on change over?
Axle is a cast repro, looks like a Superbell. I think the wishbones look like the repro ‘40 style that Speedway sells.
I just looked at the speedway ones, same number of holes, looks like that might be the one. If a guy wanted to get an aftermarket Chrome non-drilled axle, but wanted it forged not cast, with 2 1/4" axle bosses, and to go in as easy as possible in place of this one, what would you guys recommend? oh, and thanks Dave !
I think Jason at P&J's told me they are now making a forged 4 inch dropped axle with 2.25 perch width and it's 46 inches center to center. I agree the bones are probably Speedway.
I think that if the bones have the weld seam on top, they would be genuine Ford and aftermarket on the bottom.
Superbell would have the remnants of the logo on one side in the centre. Maybe Magnum if not. It's a cast aftermarket axle in any case.
When I was using a large number of Super Bell axles in my chassis business when I ordered drilled axles I had them remove the logo from the center and drill all the way across.
