was over at a local guys shop today and in talkinghe mentioned he was kinda looking for a T to throw an engine/trans he had pulled from a customer jeep( he does rock crawler and hot rod stuff). said it was either buick, olds, or poncho but wasn't sure which but it did have a th350 behind it. we talk and my interest peaked hoping it was buick. went to pull the cover off to check and all i could confirm before the yellowjackets making a nest in the aircleaner on top of the cover took over was it's not buick since dizzy is in the rear. it had also started raining so i din't push fighting the jackets and just said i'd come check it out again first of the week. pretty sure oil filter was on the right. had HEI, and had a th350 behind it. thats about as much as i confirmed today between the jackets and the rain. any quick way to ID'ing through easy block number or something else. we threw numbers around and i can get the running combo carb to oil pan all there including full lenght headers for $400...ken....
use google images to find pictures of pontiac and olds engines. Olds has a lot of bolts holding on the valve covers, pontiacs have 4 like a small chevy. The front of the pontiac where the oil pan meets the timing cover is distinctive, it's at an angle. The olds has an oil fill tube sticking straight up at the front of the engine. Pontiac has a valley pan under the intake, olds intake goes from front to back of the block, solid. etc also, all pontiacs are the same size, no "big" or "small" block. Olds are all the same length, the (mostly) 400+ inch motors are "tall deck" so they are wider than the smaller ones.
thats at least enough for me to tell olds or poncho pretty quick(i guess after a more valient fight with the little buzzin bastards). known good running/driving with all accessories and such for $400 i'm probably gonna grab it and let it be what i drop in the unibody. i had kinda been looking for a buick donor and actually kinda want to do something other than ford in the ford....
racking my brain from the quick flash i got under the cover i think i now remember larger number of vc bolts.
