    hey all,
as i move along on my 30 Model A Flathead with t5 conversion I had to notch the stock crossmember to fit the T5 shifter. No biggie. But I also has to cut the curved bar that locates the mechanical brake rods/linkage.

Now my idiot of the day question: Since the tube that I cut is riveted at each end, i assume it cannot rotate. If it is stationary how do the pass and driver side brakes actuate simultaneously when pushing on the pedal? I need to know if I can weld in a new section (thus making the whole tube fixed and not rotational) or if I am missing something? Sorry for newb question. i'd rather ask and be a dope than do things totally wrong and have to redo them.

I am trying to keep this semi intact so right now hydraulic brake swap is a no go.

    thanks for the help.

  2. That cross shaft rotates slightly to actuate both sides together.
The little yokes on either end are riveted on but the shaft swivels on balls retained in the mounts on either side of the chassis.
You would have to fabricate a U shape peice to join it up again .
If that’s the brake shaft you are talking about.
