Well- Im between jobs at the shop-so I thought rather than totally waste time- Id start on the UNSUBURBAN.....my"latemodel" driver project..... Im gonna chop it and windowize the sides like a SUB woulda been-[If I wasnt too cheap to buy a real one....]. Seems the only difference is the seating and side glass. I am chopping it 4" in rear and 5" in front....a little more than I usually do my stuff/but what the Hay-costs no more to cut the extra out! I cut the side panels out first and will add a center slanted post to seperate the two side windows after the chop is along further.[all slanted]. Also I plan to "fix" the rear doors. They look like a bread truck[tall doors with short windows]. I think I'll cut the 4" outa them -two above and two below -so they will be level with and same height as the side ones.....Windshield posts were ONLY 1-3/4" out of line at the 5" chop matchup point! The rear doors/posts will be sliced vertically and leaned forwards while top half of them is sliced and leaned rearwards to make a matching angle........peice-O-cake!
needs chassis dropped about 20"![but IT ROLLS] this way so Ill do it later....ALSO I plan to cut 3" out of the roof cap above drip rail.....
Kenny i see your up to your old tricks, looking good as always. What time you holding court at the shop these days i want to sneak up and catch you working.......
Radshit it's quite a site,he fears no metal hahahaha Kenny, i'm limping around but making it.I'm wanting to get the pan going again and thought i might need a walk through your projects to get some inspiration.........
What year is that Kenny? I have never seen that Big Chrome Strip on the front lip of the hood before, is that just something they did on Panel Trucks?
That looks good, man. Made me sad to see that cool '35 delivery for sale in the classifieds....I thought Ryan and I had you talked into building it. My build is getting closer daily. The banjo you gave me should see the road this Spring.
[ QUOTE ] ALSO I plan to cut 3" out of the roof cap above drip rail..... [/ QUOTE ] I was gonna ask about that. I saw a Graffiti Publication on chopping tops a while back and they took a piece of the roof sheet metal out right above the drip rail like you're going to. It sure looked good on the car they did. 55 Chevy longroof if I remember right. Just for fun, here's an unchopped one owned by the muffler shop guy.
Hey,why didnt you pick something a little bigger to chop?Like say the Titanic!Looks like you made some good progress, looking good.I like it a lot better with the window openings.Im starting to think, chopping tops could fall under hazardous duty, if you were inside that thing, when that fell, you might have been there for days,or at least till someone missed you,on the Hamb and sent out a search party!
Well- I got the frt w/s posts back together-the rear posts re-connected and B posts attached today.....also cut and attached the door tops....didnt have to add any length to them!!I still got lots to do-have to pull tops of doors inwards...-lots to do on rear doors- dont know how much free time Ill have now.THE ROOF SKIN IS UNALTERED so far on this 5" chop.....
NO MORE BREAD TRUCK!!!!chopped the rear doors today 4" and removed whole window hole intact- cut doors down- pulled in the top angl;es on posts and then took two inches from above and two inches from below- so they remain stock size- which happens to be same as new side windows will be.......lots O welding on these two bast'aoids!
