  2. There was or is trying to do something like a neighborhood garage in the old ford garage up north of I70 here in town. Mrs ****** and me checked it out. There were just to many cars in a confined space to do much more than store it and change the oil in there.

We thought that something on a little acreage on the outskirts of town with several seperate garages and a central spray booth and lift would be doable. That way if you don't want me welding and grinding next your completed ride its not a problem.

might give it a whirl someday when i'm old.

Yeah I've been hearing about that place for a while... There's another one very much like that's going in closer to Charlotte than this one...

Not sure how the average patina'd RPU would fit in with the Austin Healy sports motorist set.

Someone needs to go out there with a camera and report back... I think that is too cool...

I wonder what neighborhood dues are...

Yea the concept rocks, but that development seems like an old folks pink doiley tea party place for goldchainers.

I don't think HenryJ g***ers with blown nailheads rumbling through the neighborhood are what they have in mind.

  8. I don't know I think even the high zoot guys can appreciate old school rodding. most of 'em were influenced by trad rods when they were young just didn't know what to do about it.

Educate 'em if you get a chance.

Anybody know of any job openings in Lenoir, NC? :D

  10. Never can tell . . . airplane folks build houses surrounding a privately owned neighborhood airstrip and the streets are wide enough to taxi your plane right up to your own hangar door - next to your 2-3 car garage.

Gotta be interesting to come to a four way stop and see a Navion sitting on the other side, prop spinning etc.
Bet the streets are clean and well dusted....

  11. BY putting in these neighborhoods they are creating a few job openings for proprietors.

That is pretty cool seeing this, I am negotiating a deal with some folks now that are planning on doing a similar thing here in North Florida. There will be a community central shop building and outside storage for trailers and projects.

Try driving a hot rod through Hershey's AACA meet and you'll see how willing some of them are to be educated.

Are you sure it wasn't the smoking tires that got there attention

No smoking tires. The antiquers are just stuck in their ways. We mess with cars they wouldn't even look at and still hate what we do. Ask 37kid about the open minded AACA crowd. Sorry to hijack the post.

I'm sorry to hear that, I know a few old guys (yes older than me) and while they don't admit to liking my chopped A they are quick to show me their speedster or special they are building. I though it was mellowing out, I guess not.

  18. An older fiend of mine and I have been talking about something like that on a smaller scale. He has 5 homes layed out with a common shop area. He is tetiring this next spring so it might just come to fruition.

If you lived here you could use all the above, just move to my neighborhood. I have a well equipped shop. The best part is for the last 9years I have conditioned my neighbors to all night thrashing, and cam break-in at 3am. I have been working on the landscaping, the yard looks so nice that some people might not notice the 17-25 cars that are always here.

  20. I think we have one here, I don't think the guy really set down rules, it's a big warehouse looks like a former car repair facility.

I think he thought of it as a place to store your car WHILE you work on it (meaning while it is in progress, so things could get dusty and dirty). but it has turned into more indoor storage with one working bay with a lift (the other eight have finished cars under covers on them) to do clean stuff like wiring, final ***embly and oil changes, waxing...

Before got my welder, I took my 46 frame in to him to have the motor mounts welded on, (he has a P'yar foam SBC, figured it was the EZ way), and he never even let it inside the building.

I think it's probably the way to go (the community car shop idea), the government is organized against us, we should probably get organized and prepared for the laws that'll get p***ed in the name of property values. The city ordinances where I live are sounding more and more like a deed-restricted community all the time.

Side note, the (IH) truck that the Evel Kneival toy truck was based on is sitting in the lot behind that shop, it's faded and rusty, but it's cool to see it in the flesh.

I was telling my wife about a plan similar to this where I should buy about 100 acres and sell lots to car people. A guy could have a dragstrip for test and tune anytime, a self contained hotrodders paradise...maybe even add a circle track or go kart roadrace track...sell different sized lots that all have plenty of power for your own home shop.......just need the ideal state with the right weather...and a few hundred grand should get it started! I'm thinking Colorado near Pueblo!

About 3 or 4 years ago my parents were talking about stopping at this place and checking it out on their way home from Florida. I can't remember what came up that they didn't. I'll see if they will stop on their way down in Jan and will report back.

I go by a farm on my way home from work (i live in NJ, yes thier are farms, lots of them) and in this particular area, its not really that farmy. but this farm has 3 LONG oldchicken barns maybe? anyways you can easily make a good 50 or so 2 bay big garages....

I always think if i had the money to buy it i would renovate it and turn it into a community garage for rodders.
