I think that's a stock radiator cap, but if you blow it way up what looks like a wing on the top of it is a reflection on the hood.

  10. I enlarged the photo and you could very well be correct, it does look like a reflection. HRP

When I was 17 I could have bought a 57 chevy 2 door/6 cyl or a 57 4 dr/powerpack either one $125. Was offered a 62 vette, fresh 327, fresh paint except hood for 900. Sign me up on that time machine.

Let's say that picture was taken in 1934, at the height of the depression. The average American brought home less than $1000 per year in 1934. So that car would have cost 1/3 or your annual salary. If someone came up to me today and had a stock, good condition '32 V8 Vicky for sale and was asking 1/3 ($18K) of the average American's salary (~$53K), I would probably think that was a pretty good deal. Another way to think about it, Is there a 2 or 3 year old Ford car / SUV that is comparable in function to that Vicky that you would pay $18K for today???

  13. As Randy Nash ( Deuce Roadster) was fond of saying, the parts he bought ten years ago are worth twice what he paid for them. HRP

$ 335 for a 32 ? A person would be hard pressed to buy most any body part for that price today...

Agreed, '32 Ford bits are definitely good investment material.

Tour the Benson Ford Research Center for a tour of the 32-production line (among others) & park that time machine long enough to cart off a few of those prime examples..

Back in 1971, I bought this '61 Corvette for $900. 327", 4 speed. Had a blown head gasket which
I fixed for $25. Sold it two years later for a whopping $1,200.

In 1927 you could buy a new "T" roadster for 260$...Course a day's wages was lucky to be 5$....In 1934 a new grille for your Ford was 4.60$.....It was all relative to the wages of the day...

The cool thing about looking back is to spend your current cash you have in 2023, back in the 20’s, etc. Not comparing wages and such.
Only issue is no one in 1935 will take 2023 money. Gotta find a workaround, once that’s figured out, then build the time machine;)

That still figures out to two months ' pay to buy a new car; a lot of people wish they could do that today.

Would love to see the 1/8 scale chassis the guy is holding in the Maggini sales photo.
