History If we only knew then.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by WTF really, Nov 11, 2019.

  1. It's 1962 and I'm in Chicago on Western Ave. where there's a continuous string of used car lots. I'm a couple of years out of high school and I'm looking for a used car that's a step up from the beaters I've been driving. This one lot had a '57 Chevy convertible that looked like a possible and I'm back for the second time with my older brother because we're both toying with the idea of him co-signing my car note. We're circling the Chevy, my brother is pointing out issues with it, I think because he really doesn't want to co-sign for a lightweight like me. Next to the '57 is a foreign-looking roadster on a trailer. I'm not interested but I'm curious, and I want to keep hovering around the Chevy. The salesman tells me it's a 50-something Ferrari with a bit of (amateur?) racing history. They want $2500 for it with the trailer and he's ready for offers. I'm a punk with no garage, no shop, and so the Ferrari never even registers on my radar; I'm looking for a daily driver.
My brother and I wind up walking away on the Chevy. Whenever I think back to that day, which vehicle do you guess I kick myself in the ass over the "If I only knew then" title phrase?

  2. We have bantam chickens. The lay eggs half the size of regular chickens. However I see eggs in the store for as low a 60 cents. you cant feed chickens and raise them that cheep. However eggs from free range chickens are a lot better quality than commercial eggs. Our Geese lay eggs in the spring. One goose egg will be all you need to fill you up.

I was on a road trip oncet out west somewhere around the Dakotas or Wyoming remember seeing these big Sunflower fields, all the heads were turned towards the sun. Stopped at a real diner for breakfast and the egg yolks were flourescent yellow, pretty tasty. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, but those cackleberries were good! The chickens must eat sunflower?

The bacon was something else too, instead of that limp shit the size of a bandaid, they were nice thick long strips that extended over the plate on both sides. Sure wish I would have marked that place on the map because I want to go back.

  5. Bought a new '70 Torino cobra 429, shaker hood, 4 speed. Neat car. Then the big insurance scare on muscle cars. Unloaded that baby quick before the bottom fell out of the performance car market. I see them going for big bucks now days. Of course, the fool that bought it promptly totalled it.

  11. One time I was at a auction. There was a 347 tri power Pontiac all original correct carbs trans and everything. I pretty much had it bought for $600. the auctioneer was stating going twice. and the guy bidding against me asked his wife should I go more. I quipped when you ask the wife the answer is always No. That guy got mad and went to bidding. I bid over a thousand and he never quit till he bought it.. Boy was his wife spitting mad! Boy did I wish I had kept my trap shut LOL.

I looked up one of those draft notices on the intertubes somebody mentioned to see what they actually looked like. They didn't even say "Greetings" (plural) they said

    "Greeting". LOL.

Not trying to take over the thread but, as an item of interest, according to the official Wal-Mart site, there are 34 Wal-Mart sites including Supercenters and Sam's Clubs in N.D., 34 in S.D., and 28 in WY. Since that just about takes care of the total number of towns in those states, it's quite possible.

As I recall, and I may not, this wasn't one of those remote 4 calendar cafes or diners, it was a pretty touristy place or at least well travelled and might even have been near the Interstate. It sure looked to me that egg yolks are influenced by a chicken's diet though.

  15. So this thread has drifted away from newspaper ads with single-digit car payments to chickens eating breakfast at Walmart.?.

I really like bantam chickens just because they are great to look at.
I also like breakfast. Especially Huevos Rancheros.
I like Walmart because.......... ? ........* ......I don't know why I like Walmart. They're not as good for the community as what they replace.
