Yes he was but in 1942 he wrote this. From Wikipedia
On January 7, 1942, Ford wrote another letter to Sigmund Livingston disclaiming direct or indirect support of "any agitation which would promote antagonism toward my Jewish fellow citizens". He concluded the letter with, "My sincere hope that now in this country and throughout the world when the war is finished, hatred of the Jews and hatred against any other racial or religious groups shall cease for all time."[107]
Maybe he saw the errors of his ways.

Was an eye opener for me reading the replies.

The lesson I learned I’d be damn careful when opening a Genies bottle.

I should have kept it closed!

Nazis are part of the Von Dutch story, along with addiction and family abandonment.

  7. I highly doubt that and one letter doesn't undo years of antisemitism. Far more likely he was worried about his reputation now that the US was in the War with Germany.

and Henry wasn't dealing with the addictions and demons Ken was dealing with, not making excuses for either of them

  9. And one can also not just pretend that overt racism wasn't still a pretty acceptable part of US Society in many places when Von Dutch was growing up.

A long time ago, and let me preface this by saying as a current 71 year old, what I am about to refer to, must have been back when I was 20 years old.

Whether its a rumor, or if I actually read it in some magazine back then, it was a bit of information about (VD) Kenneth Howard.

Since he was connected to Arizona and was also a known gunsmith, this bit of information may or may not be entirely accurate or true.

One of VD's hobby's or past times was with his dad.
The story was that he and his dad had made a small cannon out of either bronze or brass or what ever metal stock they could get their hands on.

The internal bore was just slightly bigger than the average size of a beer can, so think in terms of HAMM'S, or COOR's, or what ever the brand was, that they had collected.

Him and his dad would fill a bunch of the empty beer cans with cement, and let the cement cure for a few days.
They would drag the cannon out to the Arizona desert, and they would sit in their ratty worn out lawn chairs, drink beer, and then shoot at the various, large Saguaro cactus.

Sometimes they would hit, and often would miss!

If indeed that really happened, that must have been a sight to behold. I know those cactus are a protected species, so VD and his dad, must have went way out in the desert away from the authority's, to do that!

Since VD was a gunsmith, its entirely possible, that the rumor is or was true.
    Everyone's results may vary greatly!

If we can handle this conversation, let’s talk counter culture. I think Von Dutch rightly or wrongly is in the middle of this.

One thing that marks this counter culture is pseudoracism or pseudonazism.

We know about Rock and Roll and the incredible social changes of the 1950s.
A lot of fads arose that honestly have more to with fashion than an ideology.
    I want to mention 3.
    Beatnik......
    Hippie......
The forgotten surfer/biker/hot rod fashion fad that adopted WWII surplus German stuff from K-Mart.

So you have kids in San Francisco running around wearing silver German helmets in 1963.
The surfers cross...... All that was was a surplus iron cross metal you could get at the Army Navy store.
    That junk was everywhere.
Us pop culture Hambers love it when Milner says turn off that surf sh@& in American Grafitti.

The best parody of this is the Black Widows from the Eastwood movies.
Heck, I remember when Jonathan Winters yes Johnathan Winters showed up on Carson wearing a surplus U boat captains coat.
In the Harley store today you can get one of those cool German type helmets.
Do you think for one second the Black Widows were real nazis?
    It’s all freaking fake.
It’s phony just like Von Dutch.
