Wow Mike, you know I like your Merc as it sits, but that photoshopped version is too cool! You should get started on that ASAP and I'll look for it at Paso in May!

Sure, see you in May, as in May 2009. I forgot to add, it would have to be a hardtop chop,

It's my white trash in me coming out. I just like the way that stuff looks as side and rear windows. No good reason to use it really. I would probably tint it anyway.

Though his brain is obviously running in a different universe to mine, Javiers Merc is high on my favourite list.

Well of course it gets chopped. Tip the posts or hardtop it, either is kool. I like the use of the 51 grille. It just adds some nice balance to the front without gettin too busy with differnt themes. The design should focus on craftsmanship instead of changes. An absolute must is rounded hood corners and other touches done by the masters. Leave the drip rails. Be careful with the use of chrome. If not perfect awe-inspiring black then something frosty that makes the lines wake up. They get chopped for a reason...they just look better that way. While there are "standards" for chopping a Merc, maybe deviate from that in a way that says "why didn't I think of that?" Fab up some totally different bumpers that add to the "swoop" of a chopped Merc.
Wow, I'm sayin chop a lot here, huh? Wonder why? Put a Lincoln motor in it. Do a trick interior. Man, you got a lotta work to do...

A**** sleds, I don't think the Quesnel car has ever been improved upon -- but Javier's car is the best one built in the last 50 years, for my money.

But I've already learned that I'm not a sled kinda guy, or even a Merc guy. If I had one, I'd follow C9's thinking and do a hot rod. Say, starting with something like this picture: bigger rear tires, nosed and decked, louvered hood, '50 hubcaps. Wide whites, yes; and powered by a Chrisman cammer. Vroom.

groucho-whats the record ? i once tryed to break the giuness record for the most hours on a teeter-totter but i fell asleep and my parnets brought me back in side the house

  17. Funny! I don't know the record, but you've got FIVE more posts in the last 3 minutes(?). So, if there's a record, A-you either "killed" it, or B-you're reinventing it. Oh yeah, what's a parnet?

From my hometown and a legend in his time; Mandy Holder built this car at Barris' shop. Then came home and started a shop that was the place to go for custom work. I worked for him in High School. Car dissappeared, Mandy died too young. I'd restore or clone this car if time and $$ allowed.

Mercs look best in my opinion...with subtle differences.

    Here would be my recipe.

    1. lowered down really really low.
    2. decked and shaved
    3. 49 dash
    4. white interior
    5. accessory wheel...
    6. 49 turn signals
    7. Stock bumpers but with bumperettes removed
    8. lincoln tailights
    9. chrome reverse (15's or even 16's) and wide whites like 4 inchers
    10. side trim would have to be custom probably the lincoln trim that no one can find..
    11. no skirts
    12. no visors
    13. louvered hood
    14. Grill would have to be lots of chrome...

    that's it..

hey thaty kind of sounds like my build...

    ha

im really happy with mine, but plan to change it this winter. the picture with the scallops is what it looks like now. the other is still my car photoshopped with canted quads, side trim back in place, and no scallops. however the quads are out of my price range so it will just get new paint and side trim

Bring back to life an ol 51 Merc customized in the 50's. Nosed, decked, door handles, rounded hood corners, 54 Chevy 15 teeth, frenched head and taillights, lowered, whites with Dodge Lancer caps, 51 Merc fender skirts.
