it would seem a few of you missed this part.

"""So the question is, if you had a cool million to spend and it had to be spent on a car or cars, what would they be. No fair, can't build one, gotta be already built. """

Any car? I don't think I could pick one but I know a Million wouldn't come close...

    I'll pick 2...

    Fangio's Mercedes W196

    Just the one in front....

    Or a 1937 Delage DB8S

  4. I'd buy Bob K's car (Chevy convertible) but he told me at Louisville that he wouldn't take 1,000,000 for it.
    Sorry Bob.....(lol)

  5. I tried to but it for years, but the owner wouldn't sell it!!! BEFORE it was restored. Way out of reach now.

I'll humbly accept the Hirohata Merc, and maybe Frank Rodger's '32 roadster (Tardell)

Thirdly, would be Dick Landy's 330 Dodge..... Keystones and all, lol.

I'm happy with the ones I have but a 32 5 window would be nice also.

  9. A nice custom '36 Ford Roadster would do me fine for the meantime.
It'll be summer here in 3 or 4 months...

  10. Can't build one??? In that case as many old cars as possible so I can build one :D

But if a had to pick one then a 1914 Peugeot GP car would probably be it, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder and desmo valves in 1914. Fred Offenhauser worked on this car in the early part of his life. One million might cover it.

For more realistic daily transport it'd be the Peugeot 403 built by Jim Hawker that had two Peugeot 203 engines spliced together to make a V8.

Of course I'd settle a Bugatti, Delage or Delahaye, an old Alfa 8C would be nice too. :D

    Thanks

    Hayden

  15. I've never drove a Lotus 23B; saw one in a mag (R&T?) years ago and fell in love...

Would like to try out a Lotus 7, too.

And, if I'm too big (6'-2"/250) for those, I'll take a big block '70 Runner. Rootbeer brown with white bench interior preferred. But 1M will leave enough to go to the shop and have that changed. And a very, very strong running engine and manual trans would be installed. Yeah, it'd be replacing an earlier car. Otherwise, I'd pass on that combination.

Failing all that, I'd take a Max Wedge car, swiss cheese Catalina, 409 stick S/S car, or interesting FE (tunnel port, SOHC, etc) early sixties Ford.

But, don't worry, I'm sure I could find a way to find something for $1M; I'm modest.

    ;)

There is only one car that I would like to have. I know where it is but I can't buy it because the owner won't sell it....... yet.

That car is my '40 Ford Opera Coupe that I had in high School in 1969. It had a '53 merc flathead with three holley 94's, 39 trannny, straight through exhaust, mohair interior and tons of memories. The car has not been changed in the past 40 years, it is as I sold it back then to buy a 65 442. If I did get it back I would get it running and leave it alone as is....

Not sure when my million would run dry, but heres what I would start with:

    Winged Express
    Ohio Georges 33 Willys
    Herman Munsters coach
Any 60s style FED with the engine sloped forwards, around 200 inches wheelbase and a nitro eating '92 in it. None of those modern FEDs, they too ugly

Hermans Coach would need a towbar to get the Wing to the track.

And if theres anything left over, a 57 Caddy Coupe De Ville, with a 500 cube caddy engine.

The chopped and channeled olds rocket powered 31 model a coupe that my dad built when I was a little kid. I will never forget crying my eyes out when he sold it , some time around 1968.
