I bought a bike off of a guy who owned one from new. Once it was his onl ycar. He went duck hunting with two dogs in it.
The race versions had a belly pan and desmodromic valves. Talk about ahead of their time. When I was ten, I was building models of 32 Fords. Wouldn't you know Iwound up with one too!

Great video. I noticed the Texas plates and thought that's perfect! Think the video was shot near Mohave. Thanks for this one.

When I was 20 1965 in St Louis, a son of a friend of my parents won a 300SL in a poker game. He was a bit older than I, so when he arrived I didn't know what to expect. Let's go for a ride he said. At >100mph on the highway the cops picked us up. Faster, Faster, dodged off on an exit, side roads, home.

    I also enjoyed the video.
What surprised me when I saw the Gullwing ch***is at Canepas was how delicate it appears. The car has a rounded hefty sort of look to my eyes but the ch***is looks so small and light!
Many commented on the sound too. The sounds a car makes are very a important part of the experience for me as well.
There are many threads on what mufflers, headers and pipes make what sound. My question is; what components are required to make a 6 sound like that engine?

Sweet car, and I really like the fack that he drives it. Cars do not belong in a trailer or hiding is someone's garage as their show piece.

One of the earliest gullwing sightings that I remember was around 1959 at Meadowdale Raceway in Illinois. The last turn was called the Monza wall. It was very steeply banked. I remember as a you boy standing near the fence at the Monza wall. When the gullwings (yes more than one) came around the top of the banking you could see the drivers legs through the windshield.

Agreed on most of the comments. This car, as well as other special cars deserve to be driven on well prepared highways (as shown in the video). This is where pure pleasure is experienced. However, these driving conditions are not reality in many locales in which we live. The unique car is only one part of the equation: the other part has to do with the streets and highways available to drive them on.
Many of us have had euphoric moments (if not hours) of driving delightfulness. Mine was in a well tuned '61 Vette driving on the old #8 along the Niagara Escarpment in early to mid October: the leaves a panoply of multiple colors, the blue of Lake Ontario, the breezes off the lake wafting the fermenting g**** aroma across the vineyards, these same breezes spilling over the rim of the windshield, the sun glinting off the chrome and the paint, the hum of the Muncie, the sound of the duals following behind, the pitter-patter of a Crower solid lifter valve train. It was multi-sensual. Not an everyday occurrence. Moments to be experienced and enjoyed. Moments to remember and to cherish. c.1968
