I love this pic. He seems at ease....even at the thresh hold of all hell breaking loose.

i don't have a pic but i imagine a 32 hiboy flat out flying across the salt at 200+mph in the morning trying to back up a record. I can even imagine the sound.

While neither of these are old builds, but I think Brian Bass's coupe and the Wade Coupe he built really scream hot rod to me

  13. Well I was going to say a 5 window model 40 and the Mooneyham/Sharp car nails it for a track car.

My favorite Hot Rod is the one someone is paying me to work on and my second favorite is the one I just got paid for working on.
Other than that I have to go with this. My old Gasser. Had more fun and met more nice people.
Made my day when a young guy from England walked up to me at the Hot Rod reunion in Bowling Green and said I was hoping you would be here. I have been watching videos of your car at home.
So I took him for ride down the return road and back, faded memories.jpg made his day.

  18. There are many iconic choices posted on here so far, and some really odd ones too. I really can't say just one, but the reason I am posting this one is it "Saved" Hot Rodding in many ways. When the world went Resto Rod - Phil Cool said Fuck it and built a real Hot Rod, in the vein of another of my choices, Gary Kessler's from a few years earlier.
    Phil Cool.jpg

And how ironic that the main headline was Kit Cars - when Phil's car was all Henry Steel. LOL

  19. And I have to also say the Doyle Gammel Coupe

  20. Roadsters have always stood out in my mind as the quintessential hot rods especially deuce roadsters. ~ from the Doane Spenser roadster to Grey Baskervilles old beater to Randy Nash's 32.. HRP

As a generic term Grabowski's or Ivo's Ts sort of nail it. As a personal image the famed 554 does it for me too. Later on, moving more toward the street there were 2 33-4 3W coupes that sort of punched me in the face. Prufer's as shown above and this one:

If ever there was someone else's car that I would own and change little more than the name on the title, Jake's 34 is it. I recall the black and white build pics from Car Craft back in it's day. Still the one, and if I were forced to pick from the 3 mentioned this has to be it.

Sorry, no pics, but both cars have all the right ingredients.

Ivos T, didn't think of that, that's a good choice. Everybody always reads threads with words like "epitomizes" or "iconic" to mean, "my personal favorite". That's not what those words mean.

    Merriam Webster

    Definition of epitomize
    epitomized
    epitomizing

    1. transitive verb

    2. 1 : to make or give an epitome of

    3. 2 : to serve as the typical or ideal example of
