Lots of us build a particuliar hot rod just because we seem to fall into it.....it is what is available in our price range, it is what is left to us, it has historical meaning, you get pressures from others to build a particuliar rig..........but, if you could build just two hot rods-whatever is your definition......ones you would use as a daily driver, your commuter......your cruiser, your drag car, ...ones that truly signified you....that would come as close as it could to incapsulating what you truly want......the real you......what would they be-and do you already you have them? And if not.....why? What is stopping you from pursuing your dream.......nobody can if you don't take the initiative and do it for yourself......you only have one earthly life........
Well I'm already building a '53 Stude the way I feel like it. But I have to admit that I waited about 35 years for years before it fell in my lap. I'm not really swayed by other peoples opinions or likes or dislikes and have never built a car or a bike because someone pressured me into it. I still haven't owned a Topolino or a Bantum (sp?). But both are on my bucket list as well as a 33 Ford Coupe. All would or will be built with traditional performance in mind although I may bend the rules a bit. I really have a hard time with the rules. I also currently own the Ol' Man's old gas roadster/altered body. It wasn't on my list of cars to own but someone had it and it seemed like a good idea at the time. It will never be a streeter as long as I own it but it will make p***es eventually. I'm afraid that the only thing that will saty the Ol' Man's is the body though. We had different ideas when it came to going fast and if he was still on this side of the gr*** he would expect me to be my own man.
If price were no object, I would start with a crate 67 Mustang fastback body, a John Kaase Boss 9, and spend weeks reseaching the rest of the components one by one. I would put it together myself, farming out only the paint and upholstry. The second would be the 56 f100 I am doing now, only the frame would be Art Morrison, the engine would be a Clevor with a World block and again I would spend a lot of heavenly time researching the rest of the components. The price is no object part would really open up some wild possibilities. Would I be truly happier than I am now? Maybe a bit. Fun to think about anyway. Good thread. B
are you sure you are on the right forum? I think I'm already on my way, early Ford coupes and roadsters with early Olds power I don't think I can boil it down to just one though if all options were open I would have one of everthing a Cadillac or hemi powered 53/54 Studebaker sounds pretty good
I'm building the one I want right now...go here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329070&highlight=the+best+55+caddy+build I've had my fill of '57 Chevys, owned 30 of them at one time in the past, only have one left now but they used to be my favorite. R-
Your question is for dreamers that don't do. I'll answer it with a question; why would I build something I didn't want? I've already built what I wanted, having all the fun the law allows, they ain't for sale, and I don't have any asperations to build anything different. Drivin' them now every day, and have a spare motor block in the machine shop to ***ure that.
