If you had only time to visit one of the two......which would it be....the Studebaker Museum is South Bend,IN or the Auburb-Cord-Duesenburg Museum in Auburn,IN? Haven`t been to either in about 10+ years....but will only have tme this week to visit one of them.

    i would have to go stude...but i have a fetish:D

  3. The Auburn - Cord - Duesenburg Museum would get my vote. These cars were a**** the best in the world for their time, the styling is fantastic, and the history of these marques is outstanding.

Stude stuff is great too, but a Duesenburg is something else. That's why the phrase is "It's a doozie!" not "It's a stoodie!"

I vote ACD museum. I have been to a lot of car museums and it is still my favorite. Go for me since this will be the first in many years that I am not going to Kruse Spring Auburn. I always take time to visit the ACD museum when I am over there for auctions.

A-C-D museum, without a doubt! Don't forget the truck museum next to it, too.

    what he said.

Also, the next exit down the freeway, Cruise has a nice museum. Half is cars (not great, just OK), but the other half is full of military vehicles. Way cool. I think it's called the Victory museum or something like that. Located right next to the freeway, can't miss it.

I am partial to Studes, BUT I would still go A-C-D. After seeing an in-progress Locomobile at a local shop and seeing how much I could learn from these incredibly built cars, I was hooked. you can see Studes anywhere. Just be sure to pay close attention to the details those magnificent cars.

I last visited the A-C-D Museum in Sept. '06. One of the Docents (sp?) was a 90+ year old former employee, who had worked there in the late-20's. He showed us a time "check" that was turned in to the time keeper to keep track of his working time for pay purposes. One of the cars he showed us was one that he'd worked on, all those many years before. It was like traveling back in time and talking to history itself. He said he only comes in two days a week, so if you're lucky (and if he is lucky, come to think of it), he'll still be around and you'll be there the day he is.

  10. ACD no contest. you won't believe what you'll see. but, sadly, the tucker is gone.

I agree with A-C-D. Went there back in '92. We hit Indy too, the first week of June! Somehow driving around the track in a van isn't the same as seeing the 500.

A-C-D is really nice and it is great to just 'feel" the vibe from the old wooden floored factory. I think there are some ghosts there for sure... I liked looking in the doors of the engineering offices and seeing the original wooden desks. A lot of soul there...

Not into Auburn - Cord - Duesenburg. Boring. All look the same to me. Owned by only the rich originally.

I vote Stude. More real world.

wow. I thought for sure HAMB types would be more into Studes. never been to either and have no idea what to expect, but i'd go to see the Studes.

regular cars for regular people. I'm just regular people so that's what I like best.

I would go to the Duesenberg-museum. That's because the brothers Duesenberg were born in Germany 20 kilometres from where I live.....

screw the car museum! find a old junkyard and hang out for awhile until it gets dark then find a strip bar and study up on your "observation skills".:D

Now THAT is the best answer of all...I'm taking the boys to ACD but now tht this option came up, maybe I'd better go on my own:eek:

  23. I've been to Auburn a couple of times....so I'd go see the Studebakers. I took my drivers license exam in a '50 Stude Champion too....back in '56. :)

I've seen hundreds of Studebakers and will probably see hundreds more. Seen original supercharged ones, rare original short roof bullet noses, trucks of all sorts, convertibles, Avantis, and all without going to a museum.

I can think of maybe one or two Cord's I've ever seen, but I don't recall any Auburns or Dusenbergs. ACD without a doubt.

Well I've never been to either but I think I'd do the Studebaker one first. Like some one said I can relate to Studebaker because my Dad had one and I took my high school drivers training in a '61 Lark back in '62 (except for the last day that was a '59 Impala).
Now that we live here on the east coast I'll do both someday and the Ford and any other car truck tractor etc. museum, Oh Ya!

I was waiting for someone to point out what I wanted to say. I have never been to the Stude Museum or S. Bend. I have been to the ACD museum twice, though. The cars are stunning and the building is awesome! I LOVE art deco and that building just screams it! Call me crazy for remembering this, but even the urinals in the men's room upstairs are art deco!

ACD hands down. For cars, I'm more interested in the Studes, but we're talking the museums, not the cars, and the ACD always has great displays that cover more than just $250,000 Dusenbergs.
