Seems like theres quite a car magazines out there...If you could just get one, which would it be? Yes, I'm being lazy...I don't feel like sorting through the lot of them.

The way I see it, a good magazine would have a lot of cars in it, not $30,000 "doctor and lawyer" cars, but stuff a guy built on his own that you could see yourself doing. I've seen a few mags that basically cover the same car over and over, thats boring too...Should be a variety of cars, different styles, ideas, models, years, engines etc...

I like to see the tech articles, nice to learn something you can use on your own build. Again, I like to see things that an average hot rod guy could conceivably do himself...

Finally, and this is where I'll part ways with some of you I think, I like the lifestyle stuff too...Car show coverage, rockabilly music, motor related art, general hot rod/greaser lifestyle type stuff....

Sound like anything thats out there at the moment?

I can not comprehend this question........only one?.......

Hi, my name is Tim and I am addicted to car magazines ( murmuring voices ) "Hi, welcome to the support group")

  4. Street Rodder magazine mostly, I don't subscribe, I pick it up at Wallyworld...

  5. I love Hot Rod Deluxe. I always get Rod and Kulture too, but I haven't been overwhelmed with the last few issues.

  9. Right now I guess it would be "Street Rodder". I still like the tech and how to articles,
but really, all the magazines are starting to look alike. It's all about getting our money. If I wanted to look at tarted up tattoo palettes, I'd go down on Harry Hines Blvd.
I have subscribed off and on to "Rod & Custom" since the early '60's, but when this one runs out, I'm done. Probably will be done with "Street Rodder" after this one too.
A lot of the cars you see in these mags are starting to look too "belly button" to me, and it's kind of dissapointing to see a car you like and while reading the feature find out that all the owner did was write the checks.
I find the HAMB more informational than the mags I've been subscribing to.
And, besides, where else could I get my ass handed to me once in awhile? Mike

Hot Rod Deluxe - I just noticed they are finally offering subscriptions. Now I just need to squirrel away enough dough to get mine.

  12. I always considered R&C my favorite but Street Rodder is featuring a lot more traditional rods now...toss up.

  13. I have my own life style that has worked for many years so I do need some hipster magazines telling me how to look or dress,,

The curmudgeon in me prefers The Rodder's Journal or Rod & Custom magazine.

BTW,,, I absolutely loved the old Tex Smith's HOT ROD MECHANIX and feel it was geared to the way the traditional guy thinks! HRP

I only get one. TRJ. Every once in a while (say for road trips) I'll pick up Hot Rod Deluxe or R&C. But Rodders Journal is where it's at.

Street Rodder. I love RJ, but, really, not many of us have the talent, time or finances to build cars like that. The historic cars are great, but the new, fantastic cars, while true art, aren't usually owner built, but created by teams of craftsman. I think you are more likely to get ideas and realistic builds on a more "commercial" magazine layout.

  17. Now that my Street Rodder subscription has run out,I only get one....Rod&Custom.I think I will keep it that way.

  18. My favourite is "Traditional Rod & Kulture Illustrated".

  21. Sunset, serious. Even Gray Baskerville worked for them

  22. Magazines are Cheap if you shop around for subscriptions. I get about 8 different ones. If one sucks one month, so what, it only cost a buck or so on the sub anyway.

Yep and I call it research.
Rodders Journal for the quality photos and well written history on the cars.

Street Rodder for the tech articles and the fact that I probably have every one from volume one number one stashed away.

Rod and Custom because again I have bought it forever and have subscription and right now they are featuring cars that I tend to like but they could always go off in left field again.

Rod and Kulture because of the cars featured and quality photography.

All other "traditional" rags have to have something in them that I want to read and save as far as a tech article or they don't come home from the store.
