Hot Rods If you were going to build a car to run in the South East Gasser Association, what would you build?

Yeah, early Pontiac stuff is pricey and hard to find.

  2. Tman, you are from my favorite part of the country. I come out every August. I went to my first SEGA race last summer. Hands Down, the absolute greatest racing I have ever seen. Worth every effort to get there. I don’t live close ether, Southwestern Illinois, but I sure hope to make it back to Lyons Indiana this year.

  4. If you were going to build a car to run in SEGA .... That is the question. Well, as I’m a little old fashioned when it comes to that type of racing I’ll keep it simple. ‘41 Willys coupe w/ alcohol fed Red Ram Hemi ( what? I am a umm, Chrysler fan after all) dual quads, it’s all good.

  5. Had no idea Quain Stott would show up here !!!

For those who have never met him, no nicer guy around. Called his shop once. After a lengthy conversation I remarked “This sounds like Quain Stott”. He replied “It is”. He took time out of his day to talk to me. Mitch Stott is just as personable.

One cannot be associated with finer folks. As to the show, I walked away from drag racing in 1970, breakouts, bottles, blah, blah. Came back when I watched Mr Stott’s gang at North Myrtle Beach a few years back.

    Best Wishes !!!

edit to add, spend some time in the pits. The drivers and crews have been friendly and helpful to me. Everyone seems to enjoy being there and is truly appreciative of each fan. It’s clear thes guys love what they’re doing.

Another choice as to what to build ?
I doubt any race car has been more refined, researched and developed than a ‘55 Chevrolet. IMO, no better looking drag car around, except maybe a ‘62 bubbletop Chevrolet which should be legal for SEGA SS.

The yellow ‘55 is a SEGA car.

You're right and it's one of our golds to keep it a family atmosphere. We are celebrating our 10th year this year and have never strayed away from what we were founded on and never plan too.
I agree that the 55 is a cool gasser.

Yep! Dont get me wrong... I wish we could all go find steel 41 Willys laying around to build. But 64-5 A bodies are new enough to still be had at decent prices and not impossible to find parts for. Granted they are at the later end of the era, still my choice for a easy/fun/cool build.

Does anyone make a fiberglass Willys body that doesn’t look pro street?

  14. What could be cooler than a
re-creation of The Strip Blazer ?
    This Chevelle is Z11 powered.

    Besides, everyone can’t have
a Willys like Quain Stott !
    Hahaha

That would be cool and there is a few early Chevelle's being built for the SEGA.
I sold my willys a few years ago and do really miss it.

It's not the body that makes them pro street, it's the way the builder sets it up.

    You're right Barry Lynn's A/Gas Chevelle Wagon. I think it's a 64 but I'm not sure about that.

That’s what I was thinking. No need to search out a steel bodied willys. But I wasn’t sure how they compare to the real ones because most of not all of the FG cars I see are not done in a Gasser style.

And I might be wrong, but didn’t he hit the wall pretty hard a few years back? And it’s now better than ever, a real racer!

Yes he did and was back on the track in record time.

  23. I believe this SEGA Chevelle was featured in an episode of cable TV’s “Moonshiners” (?).

Several days of rain shortened production time. A damp track was to blame for the mishap. Did car roll over ?

At any rate, Chevelle is back in all its’ glory. 2 door Chevelle wagons are quite prized and very collectible.

    Roger that!
I had this 64 in the early 70's and they were pretty rare even back then.

Those were the real hard to find 14x5" rally wheels originally from disc brake equipped 67 Novas.

Does the track do the tech inspection or is that a SEGA function? Just wondering what rules pertain to the most of your cars @Quain Stott ?

I realize the classes differ but I figured maybe an umbrella set of rules might catch the majority.

SEGA officials do tech inspection to make sure the cars follow SEGA rules. There is no NHRA style safety inspection per se, though most if not all cars follow NHRA guidance for the times they run.
