If you were going to chop a car AND convert it from 4 to 2 doors, which would you do first? The door window frames are removable, so that's not an issue.

I have a 4 door Jag sedan and I'm going to chop it (about 2" in front) and convert it to 2 doors. I have spare front doors. The chrome window frames are completely removable (they're made out of brass channel then chromed, so fun!).

So, chop or convert first... or does it matter?

  2. I would do the conversion first to get everything squared up and set using the stock top as a final guide. Then once that’s all done then move onto chopping it.

Interesting, The 2d conversion requires shortening the roof and chopping usually requires lengthening it maybe you'll get lucky and they cancel each other out.
I would cut the top off do the conversion then fit the top back on where I wanted it.

Probably a little of both. But the doors need to be perfectly aligned and opening and closing properly before you finalize the roof. Maybe brace the shit out of it, cut the roof off, do the door swap and get them functional and aligned to the quarters, then go for the roof.

Six bags of cement in place of the engine would help with the overall stance.

  10. 20 bags of cement would be closer to the number for a Jag 6 and transmission.

    1955-1969. The Mk1 (1955-59) and Mk2 (1959-69) were basically the same.

Why would a 2d conversion require changing the roof at all? The pillar moves and the window frames need to be adjusted (shape, length). Extending the front door ~10 inches should get me where I want to be, but I will need to di a tiny pie cut because the body lines taper down towards the rear.

  15. With the shape of that sail panel, I’d say ya got plenty of roof for a chop

  16. I would do the doors from windows down first, then the roof, then fit the door tops.
Of course lots of mockup lines with the roof to get a visual on how long to make the doors.
