Any ideas for how to remove the ignition key tumbler WITHOUT having the ignition key. All my searches indicate I need to have the key to get the tumbler out.
This is just like a 55 chevy type tumbler where you put the paper clip in the hole and turn it counter clockwise with the key in.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. Pulled passenger side door lock and had a key made. New key works for doors and glove box but not the ignition.
    2. Tried keys from other GM cars (55 & 58) but no luck.
    3. Called 2 locksmiths. Both of which we're not interested in trying to make a key for a switch that's still in the dash.

I don't need to save the tumbler I just need it out. Any ideas??

For the money you would have paid a lock smith (if they would have done the work) you can get a whole new switch and tumbler. Use a small cut off wheel and cut the ears off the tumble so bezel nut can be removed. But that's me.

You should be able to drill the center of it if you dont want to save it, and pull the tumblers out. then you can turn it and remove it.

it's a side bar lock, not a tumbler lock. I've been able to get a few out by patiently picking them with other GM keys, and I've drilled out a few, but you have to be careful to not damage the switch assembly...it's phenolic, and the lock cylinder is pot metal.

sometimes you can pry off the chrome cover, then remove the bezel, and work on the switch on the bench instead of in the dash, or just replace the switch and lock cylinder with new parts.

I'm highlighting the key(silver area in milled down) in a picture for you, it is / has a slot cut down the side(see pic) for the pick to be able to fit, if y'all want i can try and download the instructions... cut and sloted GM key.jpeg
