Snake your hand up under the dash until you can reach the top of the switch. You should feel a ****on on the switch. Push it down and pull the knob and shaft out of the switch. Remove the bezel and Bob's your uncle. Have patience, the ****on is prolly pretty stiff after all these years.
You're right! My bad. The ign switch is much easier. Just reach behind it and press it toward the seat while removing the bezel. The bezel needs about a 1/4 turn CCW to get it off. There's a special tool for it, but a chisel with a blade thin enough to fit the notches in the bezel and wide enough to engage the notches works just as well.
