Wow, first post and you figured how to start a pole. Most just unscrew, but some some you need to take the key tumbler out first.
Should be turn key to ACC stick pin in hole and pull out Tumbler ***embly.. Unscrew bezel pull out from back of dash.. Easy Ignition Removal, 1950's-70's- Rides & Wrecks - Bing video
On some cars, you turn the key to ACC, get a paper clip and push it into a little hole by the key, and then pull out the lock cylinder. Then that is out of the way and you can remove the trim ring holding it in the dash. Some of these unscrew and other ones release with a quarter turn or thereabouts. Or I could be totally wrong.
Reach under the dash, grab the switch and gently push forward, Turn the Chrome Bezel counter clockwise till it stops and retract the switch. There are notches on the inside circle where the Key enters you can insert a flat blade into if necessary.
The Ford shop manual describes the removal procedure. If someone doesn't post the info I'll go down to the shop later this morning and post the info. I'm in the process of rewiring my '54 Ranch Wagon and the ignition switch is currently out. I'll take some photos when I go to the shop.
This is from the Ford shop manual. Also some photos of my bezel ***embly and the tool I made to remove the retaining nut.
