So heres the Buick I picked up. Plans for it are.....at least for the moment...leave the patina, get it much closer to the ground, shave the handles and trunk emblem, fix one rusty floorboard, get the brakes fixed (no upgrades yet), paint the inside a silver with blue metal flake, wheels the same color with some wide whites and do a really sick interior on it. Interior is what I do. My shop is Igors Gone Mad Customs and I'm building this in part to showcase my work.....plus these bucks just rock!! This is by far the oldest car I've ever built. So I'll have lots of questions along the way and i know I'm in the right place to get them answered. I do have plans on bagging it at some point and running a fatman mustang II frame stub on it to get it a little more modern and fun to drive. That However will be a bit were building a new house and a new shop this year, so money is tight. I'm surprised I got wifey to let me buy it in the first place!...lol Anyway here she is, so let me see if I can get a couple questions answered right off the bat. Air Conditioning....it has the trunk mounted ac that I assume is original, whats the story with these? Can they be restored and made to work easily and inexpensively or should I just scrap it and put modern ac in? Next, steering arms....I know in order to use dropped uprights, which I may do at first, the steering arms have to be bent. Can you buy bent steering arms like you can for the chevys or can I send them off to have them bent and more important is that safe? Last question, what other transmissions if any will bolt up to the nailhead? Thanks so much guys and girls!!
Can an admin delete this please. I sold the car and it doesn't appear that anyone cared about it in the first place.
Only Dynaflows and ST/SP 400s will directly bolt to the nailhead bellhousing, but you will have to use a later starter and maybe drill / tab different mounting holes in the old 322 block.Using a ST400 /Sp 400 or later model( 61 and up ) Dynaflow will require to convert the car to an open drive rearend and to modify the rear suspension, like a 4 link or a truck style rear suspension. You can drop the steering arms by yourself using a vice and a torch, but buid something like a jig to be sure you do it right the first time... I´d keep the front suspension stock, just add good shocks. Maybe that´s just me, but I kinda hate MIIs, I can´t help with the AC, we don´t need that over here. It rarely gets warm enough to melt the snow, so AC is not what I really need, hahahahahaa
Sold it less than a month after your original post??? Doesn't appear that you cared about it much, either, Igor.
Sometimes someone comes along and offers too much money for what one has and sometimes a guy just decides that he is in way over his head on a project that he has started.
Actually pee-nut, that's adorable,.......I sold it because I found one in much better shape with a 425 nailhead in it. Thanks Baumi for actually trying to help!
