Starting July 1 in VA, an array of traffic offenses, from expired licenses to speeding, come with a "civil remedial fee" attached. That means a motorist convicted of reckless driving (75 mph in a 55 zone would qualify) faces not only a fine of up to $2,500 and a year in jail, but a non-negotiable $350-a-year tax for three years. The law forbids judges from waiving or reducing the fee.

Many fees dwarf the fines. A driver who disobeys an officer's order to pull into a weigh station would be fined $35 and required to pay a $61 court processing fee. But the civil remedial fee would be $900 over three years.

Drunken driving? A fee of $1,000 a year for three years, plus fines and court costs. No insurance? That's $300 a year for three years, plus fines.

It doesn't stop there. Anyone unlucky enough to have 8 points or more on his license (reckless driving is good for 6 by itself) would pay an additional $100, plus $75 for any points over 8, up to $700 a year.

  2. You are totaly missing the point. It all started with stop light cameras, than surveillance cameras in " high crime" neighborhoods, now this. At what point can we not take a shit with out being wached! This is slippery slope we are on. So what freedom are you willing to give up next?

So, breaking the existing laws is a given right of freedom? How about the freedom to be caught, prosecuted and also to pay for your indiscretions?

Oh, let me guess, we're not seeing "the big picture"? While I somewhat agree with what you're saying, I don't see how being caught breaking the law relates to being watched whilst taking a shit.........................

These should be a good start. If not I'm sure that someone will guide you to the proper department.

  5. I'm all for stuff like this. I live in a small community with kids all over the place, mine included. My street has a 35 MPH speed limit and pricks consistently do 50-60. There are also signs saying not to pass on the right due to kids. Guess what, they do it anyway!
I had a big argument with a fellow worker, a few years ago, about the Firestone / Explorer lawsuit. Soccer mom buys SUV, goes 80 everywhere with light truck tires rated for 65, never checks the tire pressure and blows her tires. Never saw that one coming. Ford and Firestone should have sued all those fucks, for being too stupid to drive an SUV.
I say put up cameras everywhere, govern newer vehicles to the speed limit and make huge fines the norm.
Wouldn't really affect us. Our cars don't come standard with enough distractions to appeal to newer drivers.
Guess what? Can't control yourself you lose your license. Lose your license you can't drive. Can't drive you lose your job. Lose your job you can't fucking eat. Can't eat and you'll learn how to drive with some sense. ;)
People forget that driving is a PRIVELEGE not a RIGHT, and there are a lot of drivers on the road that shouldn't have a license.

    WOW!!!!! Yeah, what he said!!!!!

Used to have this prick that lived a block over from me. Residential area with a 25mph speed limit. This dumb fuck drove a Pontiac Sunbird painted up in Jeff Gordon rainbow colors...............and insisted on buzzing down my street at 40+, in second gear at that. One day I'm out playing in the front yard with my kids, and here he comes. I'll never forget the look on his face when I stepped off the curb, and walked right out into the street in front of him! Never saw him speeding down my street again.......not sure what he did when I wasn't outside, but, when I did see him, he was driving like a sane "normal(?)" human being.

Lots of people forget the privelege part and do believe that it is their right to drive and generally do as they please.
