Well we just got back from the big auction in Indiana. What a trip!! Yes I bought the Muntz. Funny thing is I had no intentions of buying it. I just figured it would bring too much. I guess the spark started at the meeting of the "Players" friday night. We were planning and scheming on what we wanted to buy. Hearing a lot of people saying they were not coming back gave us some confidence. Lots of talk about the 32's. They were rough but salvagable. Just rough enough I guess to scare off the big boys. We talked about how bad the Muntz was then and how everybody just shook their heads at it. Sure it was rotted in half and there was no floor. The hood and decklid were the worst part. The rest was actually not too bad. Patch panels will be easy to make...atleast that's what I keep telling myself. Where alse are you gonna find one and at a reasonable price to boot. Well auction time came and I won! $1100 It was fun to hear people tlk about it and say it should be scrapped. Then I'd tell them I bought it and I was gonna rebuild it. Most said cool after the shock wore off. I have to thank a lot of people for their help. First and Foremost KBcookout and his wife. They helped us all weekend, gave us a place to store stuff and fed us. We may just have to come back for Mushroom hunting season. Anybody know how much a mushroom gun costs? Jr, Dave, Mark, Jim, triumphterror and more all helped in the dissasembley of the Muntz. We did it under the spotlight with a generator. First cutting the rearend loose and dropping the rear out. Dave and I had to crawl under the car in the dirt to unbolt the shocks. I was suprised at how much unbolted and without much problem. Hood, decklid, doors, windshield, cowl and dash all unbolted without a hitch. We finished up with cutting the front fenders off the next morning. It was a shame to leave the carcus just laying there but we bought too much stuff and had no room for evrything. Front and rear suspension is just 49-51 Ford and the motor was a Y block put in later on. Plans for the car? Nothing for a while. Might get to it in a year or two. Just too much going on right now. Since it was already a custom and missing the bumpers and other original parts I'll have no problems hot rodding it a little. Maybe it would be a good canidate for a HAMB art challenge. Pics will come later after we get unloaded. Clark
Sanford boys strike again! No wonder you didnt make it to the Turkeyrun. I was just telling a guy here about how you guys load up your cars on traincars for the run down. What is a MUNTZ?? I need a pic.
WOW Clark! Congrats on that purchase. No matter how bad a shape it was in it is a very cool car. I agree about the art challenge, that would be fun. Hopefully someday if you have time I can stop by your place. Good luck — MRAK
I heard the 32s were pretty rough, but went for decent money... Can't wait to see images of all this stuff.
Looks like something plowboy would whack his peter off for. Cool looking sportscar! Great project material.
Do you have the TRJ issue with the Muntz in it? If not, it's a good read, may provide some info for ya......
Yeh the 32's were a little rough, but the prices were right. The Vicky looked bad but I wouldn't have thought twice about building something out of it. It had a decent frame and good firewall..that alone would have brought over the $2000 on ebay. I also got two 30/31 sedan deliveries, a 35 cabrio (parts car) and a bus full of stuff (Ford spider caps) Clark
No pictures? I wasn't even aware of this auction. Would really like to see some pics. Sounds like a shame to have to cut that Muntz apart, but glad to see it'll be resurected, in one form or another.
Petejoe, my pecker was flaccid over the Muntz but I got wood all over the rough ass 32's. They were all rough but fixable, but 3 of them are in my trailer in my yard. I never would have imagined that I would ever own one let alone 3 (all for under $7500). I sure am glad everyone was whining about how rough everything was. While everyone was focusing on the junk Clark, Junior, and I were looking at the potential that was there. The Vicky still had all the subrails in it and was so solid that I had to leave it on the chassis. The Tudor is a piece of shit, I wish I would have bought the other one too, but it will make a nice rat rod. ha ha ha I have always wanted an UNCHOPPED 5 window. I basically bought it from the body line UP. Brookville sells everything to fix it. With the cost of all the panels plus what I paid for the car ($3400 contrary to most of the reports) I will still have a steel 5 window body for under 10 grand. Of course, even after I stitch it all back together someone will have to say that I am a chicken shit and am afraid to chop it! Ha Ha Ha Fixing a car that has all the parts readily available should be a fairly simple task for me compared to MAKING everything like I have been doing. Of course there were several know it alls that had to argue with me about it at the auction. Ha Ha ha Junior, lets see the picture of the studded leather thongs! Manowar rules! I can see it in the Muntz Registry now...#254 Total piece of shit. Bought by some douchebag from PA. Ha Ha Ha
HA ha!! I can just imagine what you will do with a stock bodied 3 window. It'll end up looking like the Muntz! Good for you!! You had me on the medical term though. had to look it up farm boy. Flaccid is a term used in medicine to refer to an object that is soft, or not tense.
Haha...that made me laugh outloud. Aaron you are a funny sumbitch. Congrats on getting the deuces....I'm glad they weren't closer to Texas or we may have been bidding against each other. Oh, and congrats to Clark on getting the Muntz! Glad you didn't get "muntz-oned"!
I was just reading the Rodder Journal Article on Muntz the other night, They thought the bumpers were cut down period Greyhound bus.
Actually, I will probably hack on the Sedan and the vicky, but the 5 window will stay an unchopped 5 window. I like 'em that way. It won't end up looking like a spaceship or anything. I will have plenty of hacking and welding on it to make it look stock though. I will still be a glutton for punishment and do everything the hard way and have about 5 miles of welding. ha ha ha
I got my camera working again and here's a few of the pics I took. Plowboy....I think The "Sparkle" is glad you were flacid!!!!!! Clark
Who is that ruggedly handsome fellow in those pics??? How much of the Muntz did you end up taking home?????
Clark- I know you said the '35 cabrio was a parts car, but how bad was it? The auction pics made heart go pitty-patter, and have visions of carson tops dancing in my head.
can see the Muntz ending up high class like that Jag posted here a year or so ago. Aarons going to build something that already exists? That's a stretch. Do you have that much restraint? Without being physically restrained? Good luck!
Better you take that stuff and maka Kurtis....... Caddy.......... overdrive........ frog skin seats......... New story remember the Kurtis in DA WOODS............
Congratulation on the Muntz Jet, cool car and Plucked from "Treasure Heaven" looks like more parts for cars then cars.. Aaron ,dude are you going Amish ? just need a horse in front of that deuce coupe? sweet buys guys!
That gets my vote for the best thing I've read on here in a long time. Too many people are too blinded by rust to focus on the potential, and just whine whine whine.
yep we were amazed by how many people didn't shell out any $$$$ for stuff my dad went back yesterday to get the rest of our stuff and ran into bid number 134 guy he was a scrapper and was buying everything in sight for under $200 they were moving a box truck down by the enterance and my dad stopped him and asked to look in it real quick before he took it away #134 said he could have anything he wants in there for $200 my dad handed him the 2 bills and went to work 10 sets of cowl lights 5 horns head lights tail lights garnish moldings and all kinds of other stuff that would have been crushed its a shame that all that stuff is going to dissappear in the scrapper melting pot tk
