Ya we spoke with #134, he told us alot of this stuff will hit the internet and ebay. You are right, he is a scrapper also. later
Man, I wish I could have stuck around to help cut up the Muntz. I'm still glad I got to help out a little bit, at least. I never miss a chance to hang out with the gays from Pee-aay. No one has even mentioned the deal of the day. My 1932 Chevy. $100 of pure crumpled goodness.
Bluto ...the kurtis is tempting. This will be my wifes car so she'll get a little say in it. I like it just as it is too. OK maybe not the chevy grill and bad custom look. I do have to figure out what to do about bumpers. I know the originals were cut down bus items. I'm sorta thinking something like the Briz bumpers fashioned like the originals would be cool. Clark
Clark, that Muntz would be really cool if you built it like a 50's road racer.Lowered chassis, some knock off mag wheels, loud exhaust, chrome nerf style bumpers and a chopped windshield.BAD ASS!!!!
Here's some quick facts for those that don't know. the frame is mostly 49-51 Ford parts. It was fasioned in sort of a unibody style. The rockers were actually frame rails. I have just enough of one rocker to be able to recreate them. Maybe even beef them up a little. I've heard that they had a little flex to them. The cars were made of several materials. Some bodies were aluminum...Mostly the early ones. Some had steel bodies (mine) and some had fiberglass parts. Cool part on this car is the door jams, upper cowl panel, dash and sail panel are all cast aluminum. They're pretty thick too. My windshield frame is solid brass. Some were aluminum and welded together. This car was customized in the early sixties. It would be cool to find it in one of the little books. Not sure it was a good custom but being a Muntz it might have made it. They put a 55 Chevy grill in the car with Plymouth ribbed bumpers front and back. It had 54 Buick tailights moulded to the rear quarters. Someone also put a Y block in it along the way. This will happen again when I rebuild it. The Chevy grill and Plymouth bumpers stayed in Indiana! Clark
Years ago, I helped work on a aluminum one and a steel one. I always thought they were cool. At that price I would have had a hard time passing it up as well.
Good for you Clark, if anyone can put it back together you can. I'll give you until openhouse in Jan. to get it on the road.
I can see it with a 60's show car flare picture it mixed with the x-sonic, A custom Bubble Top Muntz.
Glad to hear you guys scored some cool projects. When I heard all of the bad reports prior to the sale I thought it would set the stage for someone to scoop up some goodies with a little less bidding competition. Frank
Clark, I'l bet you were a RIOT when you first got there? Zig-zagging back and forth, grabbing shit and yelling, "MINE! MINE!"
Dang, Iwould have been interested in those bumpers. Was there any other good mopar stuff there? later shawn
Just curious about the Muntz. You said you disassembled it in order to move it. What part("carcus") did you leave? Was there any evidence of which engine it had in it? Many had the 337" Lincoln Flathead.
Dale.. I left the front frame section, motor (Y block), rear and some of the interior (real mess) No real evidence of the original motor. They did cut the front crossmember to get the Y block in. Tranny looked like the Y block automatic. noboD..I can't even touch this thing till the bubbletop is done. I should have been in the garage instead of at the sale. Skate...elbows out!! anybody gets infront gets tackled!! Shawn..bumpers were trash. There was two other cars with them. EMS...thanks for the offer but I'm not a Muntz collector...yet. Do I get my own little club like the deuce club? Clark
member #1 ........... 3WLarry will help you come up with a secret handshake that one guy can do alone...... in the privacy of his own home/shop.
Clark, I have a buddy that has one Muntz in his garage/shop. It's all original and has been sitting for 30 years+ . If you want to take a look sometime?
John..I would love to take a look at a complete Muntz. There's a lot of questions I need answered. I don't see myself getting close to Chicago any time soon. Bummer!! From the pics I've seen it looks like the back seat is pretty much useless. The floor is something else I'm curious about. This car had no floor and no remnants of a floor. I'm guessing the floor was even with the bottom of the frame. Which would make the exhaust have to go through the tranny tunnel. Tunnel is pretty wide. Clark
Clark, check this link.It has some cool pics of the Muntz chassis but I dont know what language it is written in. http://images.google.com/imgres?img...um=1&hl=en&rls=PCTA,PCTA:2006-40,PCTA:en&sa=G
Clark, just because I did not go to daytona this year for the Turkey run, does not mean you could not have gone.... or did you spend all your travel money at the auction
It says be in the url and i think its Belgium, and i they speak Dutch in Belgium. Anyway i used www.altavista.com/babelfish selected Dutch to English. And it worked out ;-) Maybe not the queens best English but you get the point. Here is the link to the page filtered thru babelfish http://babelfish.altavista.com/babe...//www.oldtimersweb.be/jansartikelen/muntz.htm
so, will all unchopped 5 window 32's be referred to as "plowboy style"???[/quote] No just the ones that are unchopped with a blower motor and 6x2s.
Sure, after I put a 322 Nailhead in it with a muncie 4 speed and a Frankland quick change out back......of course I will have to drive it for a year or so first before I get bored with it and need to move on to something else. Ha Ha ha I was going to put that driveline in a 27 T coupe until I stumbled upon the 32's.....
