yup. Marry the back door to the front and have a suicide door 5 window coupe. I am not sure how easy it would be to repair the roof. I think it can be done or maybe if a donor was found it wouldn't be any harder then marrying the doors. If I was going to keep it a sedan with a repaired roof I would lean toward custom and hard top it. A hammered hard topped more door sedan would be the chit. Of course that it the world according to the Pk'n'Bner.
Welcome back. Interesting project ya got there. My suggestion would be remove the top completely and make a tub out of it.
Yep, remove back door, move quarter forward, fill wheel well in quarter panel, mold some coupe quarter panels into it and smear some bondo and go. ..
That looks like a nothing to loose skills builder. If it doesn't work out, your imagination is the limit, depending on what other parts are available.
I bet after you jack up the roof it won't look so bad. Just go slow and get the top inside edge close to where it needs to be, as it goes up work the crease out. Easy! well, it won't be that easy but I've seen worse repaired. Say you get it back into shape, what would be your plan for the complete car?
A 57 Olds roof skin fits those. We did one 20 years ago in the shop. The ribs look like they belong there
For you guys contemplating moving the quarter window forward to make a coupe, keep in mind the proportions of this body. I think the front door is way too short, the trunk area would be incredibly long, and the height of the front of the quarter window is much shorter than the height of the front door window. See what it looks like if you just move the quarter window forward to the front door and nothing else. Maybe you could chop the front door/roof to match the rear and make an extended cab pickup out of this, or a he**** flower car, but I think if the intention is a coupe, the front door needs to be stretched, and the top of the back half of the door will need to come from the old rear door. Then the quarter window can come forward, but the quarter will still be very long. Here's a quick and dirty of the car with a longer front door and shortened quarters, coupe style. Has potential, would be a lot of cutting though.
I like the shape of the roofline and side gl***. Looks like enough room for a couple of jump seats. I think the rear axle could be moved back a little. But, before any of the cutting starts, there's still that pesky, crunched right rear roof.
Yes, it looks bad but it's repairable with patience. It would have to be straightened a fair bit before anything happened as you say because of pressure on other sections of the body from the damage. When I was a panelbeater we used to hate when someone would bring in a job such as a salvage rebuild and say "I've already cut out the damaged section to make it easier for you". It made it a lot harder to set up with twists still in the body or ch***is.
